1) Touch (i can´t believe this one didn´t make it into any top five...)
2) Captain Tsubasa
3) H2 - Katsu - Ranma - Slam Dunk - Hajime no Ippo - Beck
9) I¨S - Hikaru no Go
special mentions go to Monster, Kenshin, 20th, One Piece, Noritaka and all those Adachi and Rumiko mangas out there.
damn... really square list, mostly sport mangas... i thought i had better taste, more refined... damn...
This reminds me of that movie, HiFi, they kept making rankings out of everything... are we fans all the same?
Is there a way out???? |

Well after reading about 30 more manga titles out there I have updated my list.
1. Dragonball (yet again, shut up)
Bleach
GTO
Naruto
Berserk
Eden
Rurouni Kenshin
Houshin Engi
My Name is Zushio
Beck
Angel Sanctuary
Couldn't place the last 10 in order.. and couldn't remove one.. |

Yeah, I've seen the movie and read the book. I can only speak for myself, but I'm kind of resigned to the fact that I'll always be like that. But I do try to not sound like a snob, although I'm really not quite sure how successful I am... |

01 - Any Tsuge manga. Uwasa No Bushi, Tsuya, Neji Shiki, Gensen-kan syuujin [not sure about the spelling of the last title]. There's just something about Tsuge's manga that I find intriguing. It's something I can't point my finger at but it's there and it sucks me in like a black hole.
02 - 20th Century Boys. Aside from Tsuge's work this is, by far, the most interesting manga I have ever read. Sure the story builds up slowly but it doesn't change a thing. The characters, the events and friend.
03 - Akira. Otomo did it and I have read it over and over again. I was digging through each volume waiting for next thing to happend. It was just so exciting. It was years ago but I still come back to it from time to time.
04 - MPD Psycho. It's not the dead bodies and violence that made this title to number four. It's the story and its dark mood. I like it and that's that.
05 - Black Jack. Osamu Tesuka at his best. It's not often you read a manga about a brilliant runaway surgeon who saves lives. This one is really old but I still don't have enough of it.
06 - Blame!. Techo thriller to die for. When I first read Noise I wished there was more. And there was. Only under a different title. The characters' arms and legs are a bit too long, so what. Another dark post apocalyptic world to explore together with Killy.
07 - Beck. It just doesn't seem so obvious and simple as other manga about teenage musicians who try to make it big. They try and try and try and there's always something in the way. And that's cool.
08 - One Piece. [Notices three last titles begin with "b"] This title is more of a symbol for all the manga you can laugh at while reading. It's great and I enjoy a good laugh. Ruffy and his friends kick it nice.
09 - Agharta. Water, tamarix and a girl with strange powers. It's kind of intriguing and I liked it since the day one. It's progressing pretty slowly though.
10 - Dragonhead. Last but not least. Claustrophobic feel of this one really is great. This one TOO is progressing too slow if you ask me. And I mean the translation, not the story itself.
Ok. So maybe it isn't exactly top ten of all times. In a top ten like that you would rather expect to see more of Tezuka and other great classics. But that's pretty much what I like and it's my top ten. |

You should all stop too before you start feeling guilty... |

In no order and likely to change all the time
Uzumaki - Delightfully twisted. It has a pretty thought out world, it's dark, weird, and disturbing and leaves you with a sense of... hopelessness. I really like Junji Ito's messed up imagination.
Beck/20th Century Boys - No need to explain this one since it's being done by Mangascreener.
Naruto/Hikaru no Go - I think both of these series are popular enough to not explain.
Perfect Girl Evolution - Heh, I just really like the female lead in this manga. I like it because you see guys get the perverted nosebleed all the time, but this one reverses the situation. She makes funny faces and has a really cute personality. I've only read the 4 chapters released so I dunno if it gets better or worse. A lot of times for Shoujo I really like it early on but later I lose interest.
GANTZ - Bizarre. Bloody. Way better than MPD Psycho in my opinion. I loved MPD Psycho at first, but I lost interest in it when it seemed to get too complicated for it's own good and it didn't really seem to be going anywhere. This one is still early so it might go the same way, but I enjoy it a lot now.
River's Edge - It reminds me of American Beauty in that you take a normal setting but everyone's kinda f'ed up in the head. I was bored at first and skimmed the early pages but then around 25% of the way in I got hooked and I read it over a few times and found it very poetic.
Touch - Entertaining and touching. Ok, I know that was bad, but I had to put it in there. A lot of typical Adachi humor, but personally I like Adachi's sense of humor.
I'll leave the #10 spot open because there's too many others I want to put in. |

I haven't seen anyone mention Please Save My Earth. Before I read 20th Century Boys this was my all-time favorite manga, and I still think it's very high quality. Extremely gripping story (after volume 2), great characters, and an ending that actually provides a satisfying conclusion to the story (the manga does not seem like it was artifically extended beyond what the mangaka wanted to do).[/i] |

Hmmm, interesting. In no particular order (coz I can't order 'em without thinking too much )
Monster. No need to say more.
20th Century Boys. You know why...
Maison Ikkoku. I have a soft spot for romance manga, and this one is the one I read over and over. It's damn funny and basically I'm a living Yusaku Godai...
Touch. Every picture tells a thousand word. Nice and subtle.
I''s. Err, romance...? Well, manga is part words part pictures. The art is simply astounding.
Uzumaki. Weird. And..., ah, just weird .
Bokko. Who knows that a baldy beardo can make a good character? A very clever manga.
Kare Kano. Let's admit it, even guys read shoujo sometimes. This one has deeper stories than most.
Strain. How did he draw that????
Vagabond. Well known story, great art. Hyah!! |
