September 5th is the release date for the issue of Big Comic Original that carries the first chapter of Naoki Urasawa's new manga "Pluto". As stated previously, it has something to do with Osamu Tezuka (a spin off of Tetsuwan Atom, perhaps?) but any other details are unknown. In the current issue of BCO they are getting pumped up by printing an article comparing Urasawa and Tezuka. Perhaps there are details about the story in the article, but it's unlikely that I'll get a chance to see it.

Meanwhile, if you want to get an insignificant sneakpeek, click on this link... the upper left corner of the page lists what the next issue's manga with color pages will be, and there's a little thumbnail of Pluto...

Sounds cool, I'll be expecting it.

I bought the Big Comic Original just now, but haven't read it yet -- unfortunately I have never read or seen Tetsuwan Atom so I don't know if the story will mean anything to me. I'm also not clear on what Tezuka's involvement in this project is -- if this is based on some unpublished notes or manga he left behind, or whether it's just inspired by him, or what.

Great job Kotonoha, Stephen and Hisae. We've got a great final product in our hands here.

I'm guessing that this series can't be too long since it has to follow the story of the Astro Boy plot. While there are a lot of things that can be put inbetween, essentially Urusawa knows where he has to take the plot so I have a feeling it'll only be a couple volumes or so. Then again, don't quote me on this since it'll most likely come back to bite me in the arse. >;P Actually, like Monster, he can spend a lot of time dealing with the human side of things... but more interestingly, the robot version of the human side of things. ^^;

The first chapter was really nice. I loved the little dialog between Gesicht and Robby's wife. Just those little moments are really touching. ^^

I like it!

What I liked about it was the way Urasawa is including lots of references to Asimov's 'I, Robot'. Such as Robby, an outdated robot in a high(er) tech world, and the laws of Robotics. Though I wonder if it will end as ominously as that story did.
