I already discussed doing one or more Endo Hiroki one-shots with MS on IRC (and as far as I know, agreements have been made for Zero_Dreams to edit one rather long one as soon as I finish the last 5 pages of it and check it once over). A couple of specific titles were suggested by Stephen et al, namedly "Platform" and "Hang", both off of Collected Short Works volume 2.
I'd be more than happy to translate "Hang" ("Platform" is considerably longer, so it's a wait-and-see), but unlike the other one-shot Zero will edit, I am unable to provide very nice scans for it. The scans I currently have are double-paged non-debound scans that look like this (Geocitties link, so you'll have to right-click and save or paste into a blank browser), so I'm not sure if they are editable seeing that they are (a) not very big and (b) rather crooked. My hope is that some capable MS editor will pop up and go "yes, I can work with those", or even better, someone can provide nicer scans.
Provided that usable scans are available one way or another, I'm now formally inquiring as to whether or not MS would want this as a project (I already got an OK in principle for the other, longer one-shot, but this one has more explicit sexual content).
edit Scans have been deemd insufficient (too small), so unless somebody can scan it, this proposal is off teh table for now. |

We already have plans for doing another, sexually explicit series in the future (G Senjou Heaven's Door). The conditions were that I could do it as long as 1) it comes with a warning that it contains sexually explicit stuff, 2) it's released only in IRC, and 3) the sex scenes are relatively moderate in number.
Both "Hang" and "Platform" do have explicit stuff, but it's rather moderate compared to some of the other stuff out there (some of the manga I recommended to Gatsu, for instance...) and isn't any more explicit than G Senjou, so I would imagine that it would be alright as long as conditions 1) and 2) are observed.
I personally love Hiroki Endo's short stories, and would be delighted if we could do them at MS. stephen?
Edit: erm, I didn't see the edit... |

Well, in better news the other horrendously long one-shot is now completely translated, and scans&script have been sent to Zero for editing.
If MS wants to do the other aforementioned Endo one-shots at a later date, I'd still be game. |

Note that if you want to do something totally explicit, JJ is always available... or you could pick a more logical group like omanga or something, but what the hell is the fun in that, I ask you! |

A question: I've read several reviews of the 2nd Endo short story collection, and most of them mentioned that the book's release date was delayed for a year due to an arguement between the editors and Endo about the sexual content in "Hang". I'm not sure if I read it correctly, but the gist seemed to be that the original version in Afternoon Special was too explicit (porno-magazine strength, according to one review; having never read the story in either form, I can't verify), and that the editors wanted Endo to tone it down for the book release (and succeeded?). However, I might have gotten it backwards.
Does anyone have any more information on what happened? Any comments would be appreciated.
Such fuss about cartoon characters having sex... |

Well, I read the magazine version of "Hang" and can tell you that the sex scenes are quite explicit, with no censoring bars over the genitals' area. So there might be something to that rumour, however, I haven't read the paperback version yet, so I can't tell whether it's been toned down or not. |

I don't remember "Hang" being that explicit in the tankoubon, so judging from that and what Kotonoha said, you're probably right. But then again, I seem to have a remarkable ability to forget about sexually explicit scenes, so I'll wait to receive confirmation from nanashi or stephen...
So THAT was what Endo was referring to in his comments in the tankoubon. It's kind of depressing to think that even a magazine like Afternoon would be so uptight. |

From what I saw, the tank version of Hang isn't "explicit" (as in all the penises have been blurred out). |

I checked out the paperback version. It IS toned down compared to the magazine publication. Not only are the genitals' area blurred out, Endoh had to redraw some panels to make the sexual acts less explicit/offensive. |

Obtaining the issue of Afternoon or Afternoon Seasons or whatever that originally contained the story would be close to impossible. |

I'd like to see and try editing those scans you have, nanashi...
Though I don't have much experience editing manga specifically, I'm quite proficient with Paint Shop Pro and a bit with Photoshop.
Even if you just send me one or two scans, I'd like to check them out. |

From what I have read elsewhere, Manga Sketchbook is planning on doing Hang (and the entire volume of Short Stories it comes from, actually) so I no longer am going to work on this particular title. |

All right, nevermind then.
Though I am currently looking for something fun to edit or proofread, don't hesitate to contact me if you need someone. |
