Chris V and I had a discussion in the channel some weeks ago about the best manga of 2003, and how there should be a thread about it here. However, stephen (probably correctly) pointed out that even if there was such a thread, the people who'd post on it would be either very limited in number (me, Chris V, and maybe nanashi and kern), or would just post the names of whatever manga they like, regardless of what year it came out.

So I have come up with this thread. Please post your top ten or top five or top whatever list of scanlated manga that BEGAN in 2003.

Me? I don't read a whole lot of scanlations, so I'm really unqualified to come up with any list, but I'll just mention River's Edge by Kyoko Okazaki (Jinmen Juushin), because it's my favorite manga EVER, and Freesia by Jiro Matsumoto (Omanga/Band of the Hawks), because as zzled said in the channel yesterday, it's one, awesome mindfuck.

you forgot to add my input
where i mentioned that a lot of people that
post will probably be retarded

and not like playful special olympics-style
photogenic retarded but more

like kept chained in a basement away from
public and fed only fish heads and dishwater
retarded

ps. hrmm the best manga that i discovered
in the year 2003 since i am not cool enough
to know publishd dates would be yakitate japan
and g senjou heaven's door <- probalby need
chapters to form a solid opinion but it seems
to have everything.. sex.. drama.. humor...
even that pesky overcoming of difficult shit
by the human spirit type shiz

peace.

My choices are limited since most manga I read in Japanese and not in scanlation form, but the one title I can think of that I discovered through scanlations that I really enjoyed last year was Gokusen.

Mine would be Planetes, which is my favorite. manga. It didn't start in 2003(?). However, I first came upon it then. Others would be; Love Romance, Freesia, Shin Angyo Onshi, Vulgar Ghost Daydream, Genshiken, Rookies, and Jiraishin.

I was also glad to see some Ashita No Joe, Rokudenashi Blues, and (a little) Devilman started.

hyah - you didn't discover G Senjou in 2003...

Oh yeah, and by began in 2003, I mean scanlation date, not publication date. Otherwise, I wouldn't have mentioned River's Edge.

Freesia is a winner for me out of the non-JJ projects. It's absolutely excellent.

I don't read that many scanslations, so I'm not really the definitive source on this matter. I mostly read only JJ releases.

My personal pick would probably be Love Roma. Since it's about the only scanlation I read this year.
