I haven't seen anyone mention Please Save My Earth. Before I read 20th Century Boys this was my all-time favorite manga, and I still think it's very high quality. Extremely gripping story (after volume 2), great characters, and an ending that actually provides a satisfying conclusion to the story (the manga does not seem like it was artifically extended beyond what the mangaka wanted to do).[/i]

I like the way PSME started and went for a while. Then I think the mangaka tried to add too many layers of complexity in their relationship. I didn't get the feeling that they actually loved each other by the end.

I mean the whole "I loved him. Wait, maybe I didn't. Maybe I did. No, I think I hated him. No, I take it back, I loved him. No wait, I hated him so much I wanted him to suffer. No.... maybe not. THE END!" made me sick. :-/

I remember watching the anime and thinking it was great, if not too abruptly ended. But I much prefer the anime's removal of the whole "love to hate to love to hate to love to hate to who knows what?"

I have to add Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (Record of a Yokohama Shopping Trip) to this list now -- I may even like this better than 20th Century Boys (gasp!)

Anyone who reads this title for fanservice would be disappointed -- there's really not that much compared to a lot of other manga, even Shonen manga (I"S and Kotaro Makaritooru both have a lot more than Ichigo).

10 recent favorites, in alphabetical order:

20th Century Boys, Believers, Death Note, Gantz, H2, Kimi no Kakera, Narutaru, Planetes, Real, Stopper Busujima.

Most recent of those being Death Note, which I read all the available material of a day or two ago and was thoroughly impressed. A Jump series that manages to be well thought-out, artistically impressive, and not totally cheesy! Who'd have thunk it.
