But if you were to spell it that way, you'd have to ignore all of the times "Lunge" shows up on Urasawa's covers. I know he's not perfect when it comes to proper names, as you can see if you buy the original Japanese volumes with the Monster Chronicles (11-1 but I'd like to believe that he's consistently correct with the personal names he chooses. |
Yeah, I noticed that, Stephen. I guess non-Germans won't have any problems with "Lunge" as a name, but as someone who actually lives there, I can tell you that it sounds very weird, not to say unintentionally funny (imagine something like "David Lung" or "Samantha Nose" in English ). So, for the sake of authenticity I prefer to ignore Urasawa's spelling. In fact, even the official German edition of "Monster" spells his name as "Runge" instead of "Lunge". |

He does pretty well actually, all things considered. If you remember the part where he drew the Frankfurt train station - I've been there once and the platforms look just like how he drew them. Of course, the whole manga is kind of strange in the beginning seeing how I'm about half an hour by train from Heidelberg where it takes place...
By the way, I think it's a little bit of an in-joke that he chose to call the hotel "Versteck" in the latest chapters out... since it means "hideout" in german |

Hmm... I guess it will be up to the fansubbers to decide how they want to spell it for the anime. While on the subject of weird names, let's not forget our robotic detective friend Mr. Face. |

This further strengthens my resolve to never ever translate titles that have an abundance of non-Japanese/non-English names. |

Being a German native speaker myself I wouldn´t say that Lunge is that strange as a surname. Honestly there are far more weird surnames in Austria, Germany (reminds me of a friend who´s surname is Herz which is the German word for "heart" ^_^)
Anyway I can´t wait for the jp R2 release of Monster, especially since Mami Koyama voicing Eva *favorite character*. I adored her voice as Queen of the Ruins in Space Pirate Captain Herlock ~ Endless Odyssey and IMO she indeed has the fitting voice for that role.
Btw. somehow I imagined Eva having brown or red hair...I mean not that the jp Tankôbon edition of Monster would have colored pages, but somehow the way Urasawa draw her made me thinking that she wouldn´t be blonde...but I guess I´m just weird ^_^
Best Regards,

Tetsuro, I suspect many people feel the same way; I certainly do. It seems odd to me that Eva would have light blonde hair when Nina's would be darker. I guess they decided the female characters needed to have a bit more to distinguish themselves from each other. And maybe light blonde was considered a better color for Eva's haughty, regal personality.
BTW, just a note to all, I finished translating Monster tonight! Let's see how long I can procrastinate before trying out Another Monster... |

Yeah the shot of Nina with the darker hair surprised me too a bit to be honest. I mean I thought she would have bright blonde hair (like Johan)...well I guess this whole topic about hair colors pretty much falls under the category "let´s wait and see". Maybe they´ll change it but one things for sure, Studio Madhouse will definitely create something that will please the fans with all the talented people involved on this project.
Will be interesting to hear some more news as April gets closer (I´m still hoping for Emi Shinohara voicing a characters ^_^" ).
Btw. the scanned in add...anyone else searched for the OST by the catalogue number that can be seen on it? It didn´t turn up anything usefull, so anyone may know anything about its release date in Japan (need to include it in my next Amazon.jp order ^_^) ?

@Kotonoha: Sorry to say, but somehow that link doesn´t work. Is there some other way to download the teaser (don´t mind if it´s raw)?
Thanks in advance!

*_* Okay, I wasn't able to actually watch the trailer just yet, for some technical reason I can just get the sound and no picture, but no matter.... thanks a bunch for posting the screenshots!
Hope you don't mind me showing them off to others~ |

Thanks Kotonoha....now I definitely know that I need to get the jp R2 release as soon as Amazon.jp has it up for pre-order (though I guess that will be October...well I hope at least the OST will be available sooner in Japan ^_^).
According to some friends of mine who attended Tokyo International Animation Fair (TAF) trailers for Monster were also shown at the Madhouse stand (unfortunately none of them share the same interest in this series as I do...so no details about them -.-)
Btw. I don´t mind the German, after all it´s my mother tongue ^_^"
