Well I'm really happy that Stephen gets the Beck project.
He translated it and now he gets to make the changes he sees fit.
Just don't work too hard and strain yourself. |

Wow! So Stephen works for Tokyopop! Congrats! I actually feel a lot better about Tokyopop licensing this knowing that you're working on it. I just hope the rewriter fixes odd sounding language only and does not add very bad cheesy jokes and American references.
Still, this is amazing that Tokyopop is working with a scanlater. Though obviously your scanlation and official job are separate, this nearly legitimizes the illegality of it all...at least in my head.
Good luck. Barring any horrible print jobs or awful rewrites, I'll be buying a copy. |

Congratulations.
The one thing I would say though (and I'm sure won't happen anyway) is not to let them bully you into making stupid changes to your scripts.
You do realise that now it's not going to be annyoing fanboys going on about MS's releases of Beck, but rather what they think is wrong with your/TP's new releases of Beck, and comparing them to the 'original' MS versions.
Do you get a translators notes page? |

Basically what's happened so far is that I turn in a volume, then a month or two later, the rewriter turns in a script (which I don't see) and AK yells at him/her to change all the stupid things.
And yeah, I'm sure there will be people who complain about Tokyopop's version not being the same as MS's. |

It isn't necessarily a bad thing that he doesn't have final say over everything... editors exist for a (usually) good reason. |

Congrats. It's good to see your scanslations being noticed as having some talent behind them, beyond being a popular franchise to license and repackage.
Also, is it regular for the translator and the person handling transliteration to not have much contact? |

Any idea how quickly the releases are going to come out?
Will it be a volume a month? Or what? |

I'm wondering will it be in the same 3 chapter per volume arrangement?
So many questions...maybe you shouldn't have let us know
Congrats on selling out (kidding...kidding)

It'll be a volume every other month. Tokyopop doesn't do a single title i believe that's released monthly. So for those not wanting to figure it out you'll get to read Volume 20 sometime around September of 2008 lol. I love Beck but i'm officially going to try to erase it from my memory since i'm sure A-E will never finish the anime either. |
