Can't believe no one made a thread about this.

I thought it was hilarious. I have one chapter in an issue of Ikki I own and it was great so I've really been looking foward to this.

What did everyone else think?

I'm holding out for maybe a few more chapters... I trust that, because it was started at all, it has some merit, but right now I basically have no idea what to expect.

I just had to get my nice avatar in the thread. (It's from the cover, and he's in chapter... ehm, some chapter a bit into it anyway)

Oh, and I like it.

Kazuo Hara is probably the first pure Ikki artist. The other artists on the magazine before him were either big names already (Naoki Yamamoto, Taiyo Matsumoto, Kahori Onozuka), favorites among manga aficionados (Iou Kuroda, Akira Sasou, Naoki Karasawa) or artists who weren't able to fully realize their potential in other magazines (Yoko Nihonbashi). The editors have really found a gem in this guy, IMO. Hopefully, some of their newer batch of artists (Tetsu Kasabe, Hisae Iwaoka - though whether she can be considered a pure Ikki artist is arguable, Kei Aoyama etc.) will come on to their own in the future. As for their newest "new" artist (Shigeyuki Fukumitsu - the contest winner in the latest issue), I have no idea what to think of this guy submitting a manga to a rookie contest, seeing as how I already own two books that he's released from Seirin Kogeisha...

As for the series itself, I was the one who initially suggested it as a project, so I obviously love it. Noramimi is a kid's manga on the surface, but I think it's quite apparent that its true intended target is adults.

Got around to reading this after the batch went up, and awwwww!!!! Noramimi is so cute. I love the nods to Doraemon and cute mascot fads in general.

Mascots going corporate is just brilliant. The first chapter with Kumaemon is my favorite.

Noramimi rocks!
A tad overdue, but I finally got around to reading it. Good stuff indeed; I loved the chapter with the Koala-sensei =D

and that Tomato-boss guy... now that's character design! haha
Seriously, can't beat manga with an unhealthy amount of outties.

I think the same, at times it reminds me of Quino's Mafalda, but here more focused on business and people performance crap. I really enjoy this series, many thanks for scanlating it.

Surprising to see, Noramimi got some good rep over at Animenewsnetwork in their fairly decent "Right Turn Only" column. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/right-turn-only/2007-01-09

Pretty cool review; its usually a pretty good column, though I don't really like the review format but Santos can write well and usually has pretty good taste, even if he is a bit easy on certian things IMO (Basilisk getting a B...)
Oh, and since I don't seem to have posted here, Noramimi is always a treat to read.

Quote:
Sometimes the focus turns towards the human employees at the Hello Kids agency, and while they're certainly quirky in themselves, they just don't have the appeal of the actual mascots. In the couple of chapters that lack cute little animals running around and shaping the lives of children, the adventures of Noramimi and his co-workers turn out to be much more lackluster. The idea of selling packaged cuteness through a placement agency is funny, but the actual workplace where it happens is, well, exactly like a regular workplace. Boring.

I'm pretty much in agreement with this. The entertainment value of the series does flag when the human characters are pushed more to the forefront. I'm thinking of the chapter about that plump girl's lovelife which, shockingly, didn't feature any mascots other than Noramimi. I remember when I finished reading it thinking "uh, that was pointless."

So what I guess I'm saying is, more cute mascots please.

I'll agree about the plump girl chapter, but I am quite fond of Tomago and the other guy's backstory (green goblin ftw).
