Hello.

I'd like to start a French translation for the Mangas of this site. (not now, already have work on the manga Pastel, but once I'll gather enough people, we'll be enough to start some good work).

I'd also like to start a site (or maybe an extention to another site where I'm a member, in discussion right now) who would allow people to download original US scans, and empty scans in order to edit them.

This would be to allow others country then US, and France, to have manga scans since after all if you don't speak about US and French people, manga is a VERY little thing around the world, even if it grows up.

The edited scans in others languages would also be hosted on our site. (If wished so.)

Does somebody would allow me to use the scans I get from your site in that way (means, the scans are renamed in my own classification system, but the original site is quoted/linked)?

Or reject my question. Thanks, Riogi

Moreover, if you accept this proposition, I'd be glad if you had the original edited empty scans to take them. That would prevent us to do some work Wink

riogi.kaji(a)gmail.com for questions, or that topic either.

Note : I already had the autorisation from :

- AnimeWaves (http://s33.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1K7J1D1QQDYWP0Z3G2W8OCHY0E --> An exemple of what I intend to do)

(Not a long list, but gonna be edited, I hope with your work too Wink )

(I almost forgot : I'm french, sorry for my bad english and so if I didn't already registered in that board)

Hello, I am no longer active in the community but am posting to say that I refuse to authorise your use of any of the following translations:

series:
- Helter Skelter
- National Quiz

one-shots:
- Those Of Us Who Don't Believe in Go
- Pochi's Place
- Sho Nuff I Do
- The Voices That Call Me
- Watching TV All the Time Makes You Stupid

I would also refuse to let you use the scans for National Quiz, but those were p2p scans so I'll refrain from complete hypocrisy.
Once again, please note this is a list of things you are not allowed to use. I am aware that you actually asked for scans, but I presume you want the English translations edited into our scans to translate into French (unless you are going to obtain physical copies of the book and translate from those, in which case you could just scan your own book).

On a similar note, I would like to speak as a fairly experienced scanlator who has been involved in a fair number of discussions (read: angry arguments) on issues such as this and say that your idea of creating a repository of pre-cleaned, pre-blanked scans for all the lazy morons who inhabit the internet is, to put it lightly, pretty stupid. Like almost as stupid as that International High Committee of Scanlators idea. If you don't have the willingness or capability to obtain and scan your own books (or at the very least pirate them yourself) or edit your own scans, logic dictates that your scanlating venture will not be very succesful.

Also please note that (a) "original" scans scanlations are based on almost always originate from Japan (followed closely by Chinese scans), and (b) manga is actually a fairly large international business, especially in Asia.

With that being said though, good luck in your venture.

Yeah, we don't really have a blanket policy on how we handle these types of requests. It's up to the decisions of each personnel who was involved in a particular project, so you should probably talk to them individually (and Neuro has kindly spared you the trouble of contacting him, so you'd best thank him).

Me, I don't care what you do with my translations, but I'm not in a position to give you a yay or a nay on any scans or other translators' scripts. No one person is.

Hope this helps.

As far as I'm concerned: no. Frankly, I'm fed up with those kinda groups who are too damn lazy and/or cheap to just get their own scans. Hell, most of them are even too stubborn and retarded to use p2p scans. And all this is just driving it further.

And then there's the fact most of the French and whatever groups have an excess of projects (using translations and scans from other groups of course), making that whole community seem like a flakey variant of the fansubbing's community, which is at an all-time low IQ-wise in my opinion.

Wow yeah that was hard to understand... why are people so goddamn
lazy?

I love how the world considers your average American to be fat, lazy
and arrogant. But Jesus, these other language groups out do us
at every turn. Sure our group isn't even predominantly made up of
Americans anymore but...

Well I'm operating under the assumption that so-called French groups
consist of French citizens.

Anyways... I didn't actually read the entirety of the post but I'm going to
say I toss in my vote as a big No for any of these groups asking for
permission for anything.

I mean what are you asking permission for? Our resources? No...
we mustered those up fair and square go and find your own.

Are you asking for our permission to scanlate these series in your own
language? Doesn't concern us... if you want permission from anyone
ask the mangaka. If you want to use our translations to do your
translations? Well whatever I mean chances are we aren't going to
notice...

Anyways... imo if you are one of these alternative language groups you
should just leave us alone. We don't really want to have anything to
do with you or care very much what you do. If it is ripping off on
something that we did... well I'm sure if we knew we'd be pissed off
and annoyed but what are we going to do? Complain to the internet
police???? Thankfully for you we don't actually go out and sample the
random other language scenes to detect for that kind of thing.

How many Americans do we currently have on staff anyway? stephen, Gatsu, hyah and kern are all I can think of at the moment, and kern doesn't count because I consider him to be a fellow Japanese person.

And yeah, honestly, if I were a French/Spanish/whatever group who wants to scanlate off of an English-scanlated manga, I probably wouldn't bother asking the original scanlator. I certainly didn't ask for the original manga artists' permission in translating their works into English.

P.S. I consider myself to be lazy and arrogant (unfortunately, I'm not fat), and I'm not even American.

Plus I mean what kinda bullshit is translating off someone elses
translation...

I mean we don't even allow ourselves to translate off the chinese/korean/
french printed version of anything let alone the extra dubious
version of another scanlation group's efforts....

I mean what kind of quality standards are you setting for yourself....

Sure viz and tokyopop or whoever may not have the best translations
but still.... dubious man dubious is the only way you can describe yon
average scanlation out there.

We ended up with scans of our own of that one too, so you can deny him/them everything with impunity
