Just wondering (since I like your stuff so much), if there are other scanlation groups 'somewhat' similar to what MS does? Like, alternative & intelligent seinen manga.
Pretty much 80% of my scan-folder contains MS stuff, so I thought there must be more like this... right?
I know there's omanga, but that's more horror. And there's Kotonoha, but that's usually josei. And Jinmen Juushin, but they don't do all that much anymore. And Hawks, but they're also like omanga more horror-oriented.
Or just general seinen recommendations would be cool too.
Sort of seinen I enjoy: Ryuguden, Ciguatera, Monster, Homunculus, Vinland, Mushishi, SHT Black Jack... Stuff I don't like is over-violent manga, like Berserk or Gantz. Tho' there are exceptions, like Ichi the Killer, but that's just so over the top I find it hilarious (in a good way) + I mainly read it because I liked Homunculus so much. |

Well, you pretty much nailed all of them. There was another group that was doing Ping Pong (by Taiyo Matsumoto, NOT Ping Pong Club) as well as Piano no Mori, but I don't know if they're still active, or if it was just an isolated case of a few good choices. Sometimes you can find gems being done by otherwise terrible groups.
I know what you mean about ultra-violent manga. I don't personally mind the violence so much, but a lot of time the majority of the people who read them are only into it because of the presence of the violence itself and not for any reasons that make them legitimately good/interesting or not. I still like Gantz for its unpredictability and "who gives a shit" nature but it seems like the kiddies just love their tittayz and exploding heads. |

tittayz 4 lyfe, yeah reimu was the group who was doing Ping Pong and Piano No Mori, i don't know if they're still around and the last update on their webpage is from 25/06/05 so that's not a good sign. But i guess you can drop by their channel #reimu.
And some good series that come to mind atm are:
-zipang or spirit of the sun
-sing yesterday for me or Hatsukanezumi No Jikan (aka Possum Time copyright Pnyxtr 2005) both by kei toume and not really josei IMO.
-Himizu (even if it's only 1 vol but if you enjoyed ciguatera it's a good one)
-i didn't see REAL in your list so i don't know if you have it already but again it's REAL so you can never go wrong by telling people to read it.
-you could get Bakune Young in legal or illegal form if you like Ryuguden.
you probably have some or all of those series but again besides the groups you mentioned and ms and my group (who doesn't really have a seinen series) i don't have anything else in my manga folder. |

I'm reading REAL, really good stuff and together with Blame my favorite omanga project (tho I am buying the latter now)
But I've been looking for Himizu, can't seem to find it, tho' I know SC did it...
What's your group btw? |

Hmm? Solanin is totally seinen. Ookiku Funkabootay maybe a little less so, but it still is. And Hataraki Man (I guess, anyway, it's a bit hard to say with stuff from Morning...) |

I didn't think Kotonoha was all that josei...its certainly not their most popular stuff.
I also can't think of any other groups that do titles like Mangascreener other than the ones you've mentioned. Sometimes I seek out stuff by individual creator instead of group to see if other people have done titles by the same artist. Or else other groups pick up some random gems.
For a random rec, if like Mushishi you should read Hyakkiyakou Shou. I forget who scans it, but the art is great and the tone and subject matter are similar. (It won some manga awards as well.) Ok so technically I believe it is josei but it comes off very muted, like Mushishi. |

Ah I see, I'll check that out if I can locate it.
I didn't say Kotonoha was josei-only, they have some very good seinen too. But it's still a different kind of manga than MS. |

Checked out Piano no Mori just now, and I quite like it. Kind of, my kind of seinen (somewhat along the lines of Ciguatera but with grade-school kids). Too bad Reimu is dead as a doornail; did find another one-shot by that mangaka though, scanlated by Kotonoha. Which was also a good read. |

I haven't read Piano no Mori for myself, but I absolutely adore Hanada Shonen-shi, which is by the same author. Both the manga and the anime were absolutely splendid. |

Yeah I was thinking about checking that out, but I don't think it's available on scanlations. And the anime was subbed (partly) quite a while ago.
By the by, any chance MS will ever do a Makoto Isshiki (maybe Hanada?) project? |

Okay I've watched 2 episodes of Hanada as of now, and I'm in love. Ichiro is just a hoot, reminds me of a bumpkin version of Shin-chan. And without too much build-up, it manages to touch me in many ways.
Really frustrates me that they stopped subbing this after 11 episodes.
I'll be going at them at a snale's pace, to prolong the joy of having an episode to watch. |

Finished watching what I have of Hanada... Man they simply could NOT have chosen a worse timing to stop subbing this awesome series
I'm officially frustrated. |
