Well, you guys have probably seen this, but if you haven't I thought it might get you excited. Black & White

http://www.tekkon.net/site.html

the trailers look good.

My favorite in the new movies that have come out recently is probably Toki wo Kakeru Shojo. I haven't read the novel as of yet, but the anime was well done.

It's kinda scifi. Two alpinists that adore sex and have unlimited stamina wanna go into space and succeed in doing so - using different ways and carreers.

Last night I watched the first of 2 Spirit of the Sun TV-specials (fansubbed, naturally). It feels like a pretty good adaptation, of course with Masayuki Kojima (Monster, Hanada-Shonen-shi) directing, I had little doubt in that.

Oh god, I am SO pumped.

Some of you might have heard about Piano no Mori, and know I am a huge fan. But the official site of the Piano no Mori anime-movie opened today, and surprise surprise: It's being directed by Masayuki Kojima, who directed Monster, Hanada Shonen-shi and A Spirit of the Sun. A man extremely capable of adapting manga into anime.

Man, what the hell, this is like a Makoto Isshiki Christmas. Or, a barbapapa Christmas. =D
Hanada Shonen-shi (originally a manga by Makoto Isshiki, of Piano no Mori) is being subbed again.

Latest issue of Afternoon they announced they will be animating "Ookiku Furikabutte". A manga which Neuro referred to as an "emo-fag baseball manga" which doesn't hit too far off the mark as far as the characters are concerned. Still, I'd kind of like to see it.

Hmmm..."emo-fag baseball manga" sounds strangely amusing.
Has anyone seen Oshii's new film? From what I've heard its a part of his ridiculous Keberos saga, and judging by the title I'm guessing its more along the lines of the Lynchian/slapstick live-action entries of the series rather than Jin-Roh. I actually liked those movies where he was just screwing around with direction and plotting, and I'd take that over another Innocence any day.

Nice to see you here Kagemusha, you've kind of been a source for manga to read for me, I'm not surprised at all that you're here.

Speaking of which, have you read the Building Opposite by Vanyda yet? Heard good things, but couldn't find it when I had the cash to afford to buy comics...

Also for those who reside in or Near New York City, the Girl Who Leapt Through Time (a very highly acclaimed anime film, from director Mamoru Hosada, who Madhouse producer Masao Murayama(sp?) called the next great one at his panel during otakon), is premiering in the US at the NY International Children's festival. http://www.gkids.com/

I've seen Hosada's other work, and found his Digimon movie surprisingly good, and the One Piece movie he did featured animators from Mindgame, which made it visually cool, though the story was nothing really special.

I thought it was great. Art is a bit rough (improves over time), but has the perfect mix of drama, humor, mundane and the somewhat incredible than every great slice-of-life comic needs. The vignettes are short, but Vanyda's characterizations are good enough to work around the length. Even if there are some pretty standard archtypes at play (the disgruntled middle-age man, the lonely single mother) she really injects life into them. Even Boilet takes time off drawing naked Japanese girls to write a solid introduction.
Not really watching anything new at the moment, but I'm thinking about getting Ergo Proxy. Anyone have an opinion on it?
