yaaaay thanks for the translation, was hoping it wasn't dropped. Your translator/editor really knows how to write dialogue that actually sounds like it's coming out of someone's mouth; After reading too many bad translations of good manga (half of which I paid for licensed), it really is worth waiting for something this entertaining, even for 4 months...

I'm even starting to prefer this to Planetes, but then I've only read the first 2 volumes of that, but this has more complete nutcase characters, which is always good... And Im a sucker for that period of history and vikings in general Smile

The art is getting better and better. It's almost unfair that someone so good at drawing spaceships is good at rain and mist and knives and beards too..

(tries to resist spoiling it by downloading the raws for volume 5 and pretending to understand them...)

Yes, we took a longer time than I'd wished to get working on Volume 4 but my plan is to keep a more brisk pace from now on, especially since the fifth book is already out. And as for the story, it really only gets better. Even I couldn't resist squealing like a fanboy a few times during Volume 5, so we're anxious to get there soon.

I just registered to say thanks for doing an awsome job on this series, both with translations and typesetting. and the fact that you guys have gotten names and stuff right is really nice ^^ (as a norwegian i know a lot of this stuff from before Wink

Vinland Saga is so good, not only its just writing about history, its making manga history its just too good.

BTW, why does Askeladd call himself son of olaf (ealier chapter), now son of lydia? Confused

waiting eagerly to find out Smile

wooo thanks, I may be obsessed enough with the adventures of Feral Iceland Boy to read the other subs of this as soon as I can, but I and Im sure many other random people of the internet still appreciate people who take time to get it right.. I feel terrible for saying it, but if this gets licensed I will cry, because people as good as you guys will undoubtably stop scanlating it, and therefore it will take a good 2 or 3 years to find out what happens...

I cannae WAIT for your translation of volume 5..

Thanks! We realized that once the other guy got the jump on us that a lot of people wouldn't ever bother with our version again, but it's great to hear from those who still appreciate the best quality. And I'm surprised by the number of downloads too (according to the torrent). Not that lack of downloads would stop us...

Actually; to be more precise - Stephen knows how to write amazing dialog that actually sounds like its coming out of a Danish Viking's mouth of hundreds of years back.

I want to say what an amazing work of art the translations have been so far. Vinland Saga is a Japanese Manga; which centers around Danish Vikings; and takes place across Europe and England; hundreds of years ago; and now translated to English by an American translator.

The translations so far have been amazing:

yep, thats what I meant..
I read enough things that aren't manga scanlations for it to annoy me how under-used the archaic silliness of the English language is in things like Berserk (not that us people who get them for free have any right to complain Very Happy

)
Its just makes you all warm inside to see it done properly.

The translations are so much full of insight; and the affection is clearly there. And of course; there's loads and loads of simple, plain skill. I really, really feel lucky to be able to read MS's Vinland Saga.

When I first read your post I got a little indignant. Sure, Stephen is an awesome translator, pretty much without peer in the level of skill and volume of output. That's a given. However what I was annoyed about was that my contribution had been ignored...

Then after a while I got to thinking. Good editing (image editing; rather than altering any of Stephens text) and typesetting(& various sfx-inserts) (following Yukimura Makoto's font styles and sizes) should let the reader concentrate on what they read, without being distracted by any jarring glares.

So I'm taking the fact that I was ignored as a compliment.

Also I might have made a special edition of the next chapter just for you Alegria. Very Happy

Indeed the pages all look fantastic, every single page since chapter 1. There's really zero trace that these pages were taken from hard copy material. But its too easy to take it all for granted Embarassed

And really, i cannot even imagine the work involved for the editing, having never done any image editing myself. (Except for the occasional Believers wallpaper, which you can see is really crappy Smile

)
But it all looks amazing, it looks perfectly ported to digital format but keeping all the details of Mr. Yukimura's artwork perfectly.

and i must say... whoa! i mean, i knew its always hard to insert the dialog; what more with managing the different settings for each bubble. but, whoa; consider me awed Smile
