Editing Shoujo Fight nowadays, and I sort of realized that Nihonbashi's stuff is actually a lot like Ai Yazawa's. Except made so you don't have to tug your balls between your legs to enjoy it. |

Firefighter Daigo 01
I really like this guy's classic approach to the genre. Almost like a shounen Say hello to Black Jack with its realistic artstyle and down to earth theme. |

Living Game 1-5
I wouldn't call myself hooked yet, but it's definitely not unenjoyable.

Tales of Narnia. I bought 2 vol HC edition of whole series a ehile back, and read only first book from it. Now im catching up, im on 3rd now, and this still are the greatest children books ever, imo.
Also finally finished Years of Rice and Salt. Awesome book. Typical Robinson. |

Cerebus/Church&State-Okay, so I'm re-reading it. Maybe to celebrate Sim's return to comics? Whatever, its incredible either way. Jaka's Story is still his crowning achievement, which I'll probably re-read next.
There's more stuff of course, but I'm lazy right now. Onto the real purpose behind this post: has anyone read the FLCL novelization? I can't imagine how it could possibly work, but I am quite the fanboy when it comes to the anime, so I'm thinking of giving it a shot... |

Took another crack at:
Bakune Young 1-3
The hyperactive nature never really worked for me, but in the end I grew to appreciate its utter insanity.
Best character by far: Johnson Membodeath, the gay ninja. |

Speak of the Devil-Gilbert Hernandez's trashier but equally weird companion piece to his brilliant (and relentlessly morbid) Chance in Hell. At first it takes a similar approach to Sloth (suburban ennui with a surrealist touch) which is a little disappointing, but around the third issue the whole thing goes batshit insane. Just read the fifth issue and to be honest I have no idea what's going on, but there's only one issue left and I'm sure that a second (or third) reading will make sense of everything. Anyways great stuff but buy Chance in Hell first if you haven't. It will definitely appeal to MS readers and Naoki Yamamoto fans.
Cherry-barba perked my interest in this series. Pretty standard stuff but its very well executed. Really like the guy's art-style too. |

Digging through some Taniguchi.
A few days ago I read Aruku Hito (Walking Man), which was pretty good in a YKK kind of way. Relaxing, aimless, wholesome.
Right now I'm reading Harukana Machi-E, which has pretty much the same qualities, but you get so much more out of it when there's some actual story development. Script isn't too smooth, but what the hell; Ponent Mon's gonna put this out sooner or later anyway. |

Been rereading National Quiz... this book gets a 'read when you want to get motivated as an artist' award from me : d
Seriously, I wouldn't mind making a comic in that style one day.
Anyway, other than that I re-explored Kei Toume works like Hitsuji no Uta (Lament of the Lamb)
Which I thought was great back when I was...18 or so?? Now I'm not so sure... but I actually prefered her art over hiroaki samura (blade of the immortal) at times
I don't know, call me insane! However I'll admit that Hiroaki is an insane level of draftmanship.
I also finally brought myself to finally pick up and finish part one and two of the Jojo series.
The first is hilariously campy which when given time develops and matures its idiosyncracies to a whole new level that makes the series so badass! If that even makes sense! |

first 2 parts of jojo are only ones i really enjoyed. 3rd&4th were total crap for me (esp 3rd) 5th&6th were ok, much better then previous ones, but still i enjoyed first 2 more. And Steel Ball Run was fun, but i need to read more of it |

I haven't read Steel Ball Run, but it kinda seems like 'what would happen if Araki would retrace his steps back to his roots but as an established mangaka.'
I actually started with the third when I was little like most people... so naturally part one and two would throw me off...literally!
I'd like to hear why you think the latter-most portion of series isn't as good though!
Also, I may start rereading Endo's works in general... all his works would confuse but fascinate me to no end when I was little! |

I've been trying to read up on Tsutomu Takahashi's stuff (Jiraishin, Blue Heaven)
I would read his stuff when I was little and go 'holy !W#! this is the best manga I've ever read!'
Then I realized that alot of his stuff were mostly both hits and misses. His shtick was both a blessing and a curse; his stuff can be so dreadfully boring but awesome sometimes! Is is it just me?
Anyway, I'm just rambling off of reflecting what I thought I read a year ago so....I'll have to pick up his stuff again for more clarity in my opinion. |
