Is there anything as pure as true love? But then again is it real. True love is when you love someone you will give him/her the world. My grandparents are actually an example for being happily married for about 60 years. But what about people in this age and day. Is their true love for them. Most likely not. But i want to see what you guys think about the subject so post.

As a devout smoker, I have to believe in true love, because there is no love as true as the love between a man and his nicotine.

Aside from that silliness, it's tough to believe in 'true love' these days. The word love has been used so much that it's beginning to lose its meaning. You can love milk, but you really don't love milk, you just like it a lot. You wouldn't sacrifice yourself completely for milk, you wouldn't give yourself completely to milk. On top of that, we have mass-produced a sense of love that doesn't exist in human relationships.

Few people love each these days, they simply tolerate one another enough to build a mutual attraction. We think of love in terms of people who are compatable with us, for people who will meet us halfway. We no longer look for soulmates, instead, we look for ourselves in the opposite sex. It's the ultimate form of vanity, but it's not love... true love at least. It's only love as we are told it to be, by movies, by books, and by the world at large.

True love is to be able to love someone with all your heart, regardless of the faults you find in each other, to let them completely have their way when they want it and for you to have your's. That love dies when you become to distracted by your own needs, when you cannot give in or give up, because there are no compromises in love. True love is rare, so it's a tragedy that it's dying.

Nowadays marriage isn't a commitment, it's a period of monogamy, easily disposable in any court of law. With divorce rates on the rise, it's no longer taboo to leave your spouse for any given reason, so when you turn your back on love, you won't ever have to give in and give yourself up to one another. You never have to admit your wrong, you can always be right. There may be a million fish out there in the sea, but there's only one for each person, and you can't let your's get away.

Despite this, the length of a marriage is no sign of true love, only a sign of those either bogged down with the sense of commitment or the fear of isolation. People who have been married fifty years don't necessarily love each other, they just don't believe in divorce or are too afraid to find someone new. You promise to have and hold, till death do you part; no one said anything about loving one another forever.

But there is hope for true love, because there is always hope. Every so often, a couple is able to cross the obstacles of life and find each other, a one and a million combination that somehow clicks together in their favor. There often is little fan-fair or romantic sentiment, but to those who find, it's more important that the setting of the sun or the rising of the tides.

Maybe I'm naive or just a romantic at heart, but I like to think that it can happen to us all; it can happen to you, me, and the entire world if we want it badly enough. That's all you really have to do, to want it so much that you would do anything for it: climb any mountain, wander any desert, cross any ocean just to find that one person you know you're destined to be with and you will find them. Once you've given yourself up, you're halfway there. Life may be cruel, it may take those who we find, but it will always let us find them, and that makes it all the more worth the effort.

Until then, I'll just have to keep smoking.

But if would be kind of nice if your significant other refrained from sleeping with anybody else. Of course, it would be even nicer if the person didn't mind me sleeping with someone else, but I guess we can't have everything...
