I don't think some of you understand the fundamental concepts involved here. There is nothing gullible about believing a message on a page that in all other cases has told the truth. April 1st is not and was never intended to be a day to spread rampant misinformation, though that seems to be what it has become.

We could not "check the paper" for verification, because no paper anywhere on this half of the planet would report the news had Harold actually died. Japan is a fairly remote country for most of us, and we have no way of getting up to the minute information about one of its semi-famous residents. Like I said before, there was nothing clever or noteworthy about that particular "joke".

Continuing along those same lines, a lie is not a joke. Go look at the definitions of each, they don't overlap in any way. The Harold Sakuishi "April Fool's Joke" was a blunt, poorly devised stunt at best. No one could possibly feel embarassed about having believed it, and only the most dim among us could find genuine mirth in mocking those who did.

Better luck next year Stephen -- All you managed to do was annoy the sensible and delight the fools. But, in the end, I'm very glad that Harold Sakuishi is alive and well. I'm not ashamed to admit that I felt pretty bad after reading yesterday's post. If you're not too busy laughing at a car wreck or some similar tragedy, those who are so inclined may begin mocking me at their leisure.

I think everyone is all taking this too serious... to start off with, before even reading the article you could see that it was april first... and you've just got to expect these kinds of things ~_~ I meen does anyone remember TW's joke last year about Naruto... it was just as lame, but at least it got a better response than this.
Anyways, lighten up people >_<
As much as i disagree with the joke (having had one of my room mates father's die in an auto accident within the last year.) It was just that, a joke, even if a bad one.

Man you guys should relax a bit
it was a joke, a tasteless one, but it's alright
it's not as if the author's dead for real and that's what counts

But what's puzzling me is that some ppl here are overeacting: telling everybody that they cared the most, and the rest who saw the joke and laughed are insentitive jerks and leechers. That's hypocritical.
Let's say that Mr. X from Japan just died yesterday, would you be sad? No, you don't know that Mr. X; no matter how sensitive you claim you are, it won't affect you because you don't care about Mr. X. So the next question is why you care for Harold Shirochi. That's because you like his work Beck. And if Harold Shirochi didn't write Beck, you wouldn't give a shit that is dead. So deep down in everyone of you just think of Beck.

And to those who say that they would actually care for Mr. X, then they don't know what they're claiming. There isn't only one Mr. X, there's an estimate of 8.93 deaths/1,000 population (2002) around the world; ok now you I-am-more-sensitive-thus-a-better-human-than-you-people, care and be sad all your life.

Oh yeah did I mention that you are gullible?
Google exists in jap, Yahoo exists in jap, and many more search engine
you click, you enter the name in english, and you look for information. Even if you can't read, it's pretty easy to figure out if it talks about death or not.

To elborate on that, there was nothing clever about posting a false notice of death. I don't understand how we're "taking things too seriously" by having believed it, or why we should "lighten up" now that we know it was untrue. It was nothing but a very crude attempt at humor, with none of the good-naturedness inherent in the very meaning of the word "jest".

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, I'm just pointing out that the Beck post, by definition, was not funny and could not be perceived by any reasonable person as funny. Therefore, the fact that some of us didn't find it funny should come as no surprise. It was the intellectual equivalent of pushing somebody down and then telling them to "take it easy, it was only a joke."

Obviously I was only as concerned as I could be for a perfect stranger who I know only through his work, but the fact remains that I was concerned, and fail entirely to see the "humor" of the situation that I'm apparently missing. I also can't help but notice that most of the pro arguments have been poorly reasoned and lacking in basic spelling and grammar, so I think I'll call it a day on this debate.

How can any of you actually believe that he died, seeing as we've made this joke in the channel roughly fifty times?

It´s OK, I think I can pardon stephen {cause he is the one who made me know beck in the first place (ya´now by translating it) so I still think that STEPHEN PAUL RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
oh by the way, I´m from Argentina, so I don´t know about april 1°. So I did think that was real. But now that i know it is not, i can relax and think how good it is to know that he is still alive, and that it was a joke.
I highly recommend all of you to relax and forget about it.
