I just want to notice that there a lot of manga about Rock band. And the thing is that I find that many of them weren't not original. They very often follow the same guideline. But there is some exception: manga like Bremen and Beck make THE exception(I think).
The exception is not about the main guideline, but the character, that are very unique for a Band-like manga *sorry for my poor english*.
In beck, the author focus on the relationship, between the main character and his world. And in Bremen (not the same author) He focus on the evolution of whole group, *the thing is I never saw character so violent in a manga ^^ that what make Bremen the funniest manga *.
I just want to know your opinion. I just wanted to talk about one of my prefered manga.
(I can wait for the next release^_^!!) |

I didn't think that Bremen was that original... you're giving it way too much credit. To put it at the same level as Beck is like comparing a weed with a flower. |

In my point view,Bremen is original because VERY excentric character. We don't see character like that very often, that's what I find so fun . You are right when you say that Beck is better to read. But I think Bremen is not that far (I talk about the fun we can have by reading both manga), the difference is in the public aimed. Beck is more accessible. With Bremen it's another things, it's aimed maybe a too specific public . |

Bouba, i strongly suggest you read more 80's manga, because every one of the characters in Bremen is just rehashed from old punk manga -_- |

The one rock band manga that comes to mind is Toy by Atsushi Kamijou. I have to admit, though, that I'm not a big fan of that series, even though it's hailed as a classic. That might have something to do with the fact that the music portrayed in the manga doesn't seem like the kind that I would enjoy.
Oh yeah, there was another one called Kaikan Phrase. I've never read the manga actually, but saw the anime on TV. It was utterly dumb, and the music was this, awful visual-kei stuff (not that visual-kei music isn't awful in general, but it was especially awful), making it very hard to resist watching it just to make fun of it.
You know that someone needs to get a life when they're watching a dumb program just to make fun of it...
Anyway, I've read other rock manga, but the only one that's noteworthy, in my very humble opinion, is Beck.
But if you want to discuss manga about music in general, then Shindou by Akira Sasou is hugely recommended. I loved it even though I don't listen to classical music at all. But then again, how could I not love anything done by Akira Sasou?
P.S. What is B.B? |

Yeah, I don't think you should compare Beck and Bremen. Personally I think Bremen is pretty generic. I put off reading Bremen for a long time but I finally started reading it. It was ok to read but then I got bored of it. I still read it but if ToriyamaWorld stopped scanslating it, it wouldn't be a loss to me at all.
Now if they stopped Hikago, or MS stopped 20th Century Boys or Beck, I'd be crying. Beck is the best music based manga I've read. Good stuff.
As for Kaikan Phrase... I read a little. As far as I can tell it's about a song writing girl who gets seduced by some lead singer to write perverted lyrics. He gets her to write these lyrics by getting her horny or something like that (something like virgins write the dirtiest lyrics?). It was pretty dumb. I only read the first two chapters or so though so maybe it gets better. :O |
