oooo hohohohooo~!
well, I just saw a movie that easely makes its way into my favs of the year. It's funny, somewhat original and it just kicks ass! (and balls =) )
I'm talking about Shaolin Soccer. Now, I've heard of it before and seen some trailers around the internet but damn! the movie's great!
the special effects are great and also not too great (it keeps the comedy feeling)
lol I found myself saying "Hooolllyy craaaa~~*beeeep*" during the whole movie.
As the title shows, it's about Shaolin warriors who decide to put their kung fu to use in soccer.
If you're familiar with captain tsubasa, you'll see a lot of stuff from there .. except... in live action!
anyway, I got a small file for you guys, I can't really show you the cool stuff so I got this itsy bitsy clip edited with my super duper newb skillz in premiere... and a cool soundtrack.
click
note : I also found the movie was well filmed.( cool stuff =p) |

Hey Qiqo, Chow XingQi (zhou xingqi, stephen chow, stephen chau as he also may be called) is my favorite actor. I actually own over 20 of his movies on DVD. I can make a list of the good ones if you'd like to see them, but if you liked Shaolin Soccer, then you'll definitely love God of Cookery, i can send you the vcd rip of it if you want =) |

I saw the Cantonese version of Spirited Away, a few months ago on DVD. It's a very good movie. And good luck trying to find it playing in the movie theaters. No theaters in my area are playing it. Looks like Disney screwed up distribution for another great film. |

Bolded are my personal favorites... so yeah there are plenty of great Chow Xingqi movie, i suggest you watch as many as possible, and remember this is completely from my perspective, don't take this all from just what i say.
• Shaolin Soccer (2002) (own-dvd) :: Chow XingQi’s newest movie, and most popular to date, expensive special effects, good writing and excellent cinematography, not to mention its fricken funny. Watch out for it in 2003 in the USA released as KungFu Soccer.
• King of Comedy (1999) (own-dvd) :: A funny little movie about acting, its got a cameo by Jackie Chan and lots of funny moments. This movie starts out really slow, in fact the first time I watched it I stopped half way through with the opinion it was horrible, but when I watched it all the way through I was pleasantly surprised that I really liked it.
• The Tricky Master (1999) (own-dvd) :: This movie actually puts Chow XingQi opposite a younger comedian who’s been on the rise in HK recently, it’s a really funny movie about conmen, gambleing and the underworld of Hk/Macao. This movie probably wouldn’t be too good for someone without knowledge of Chinese culture and puns, but still a big laugh.
• The Lucky Guy (1998) (own-dvd) Chow Xingqi heads an all star cast, such as Hsu Chi. This is an EXTREMELY funny movie, with tons of quotable lines. Me and my friend Peter are always joking about lines from this movie. Its about the employees of a small restraunt which is going out of business, and each one of their lives. Chow Xingqi plays a ladies man, who has actually never had any luck with ladies…. A must see movie.
• Lawyer Lawyer (1997) (seen) :: This movie is um, not my favorite by far, it REALLy requires a lot of knowledge of Chinese. I watched it with a Chinese friend of mine and she was rolling the whole time, but I just couldn’t get into it.
• God of Cookery (1996) (own-dvd) :: The 2nd most famous Chow XingQi movie, it is supposedly being re-made for American audiences starting Jim Carrie (whom Chow Xingqi idolizes) So it should be good. This movie its LOTS AND LOTS of fun, so check it out!
• A Chinese Odyssey Part One: Pandora's Box (1995) (seen) :: Weird
• A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella (1995) (seen) :: The 2nd part of a retelling of the Journey West, starting Chow Xingqi and friends. Its really a liberal take on the classic story, and really confused the heck out of me, mostly because I watched it out of order ~_~
• Out of the Dark (1995) (own-vcd) :: A parody of every chinese ghost story ever made. This movie is REALLY creepy, especially considering its supposed to be a comedy. You really have to have a good knowledge of Chinese Ghost stories to get most of the comedy in this movie, but even without it there are scenes which are unbarebally funny. Especially the part where Chow Xingqi tries to train the apartment staff how to fight ghosts.
• Sixty Million Dollar Man (1995) (seen) :: A tribute to Jim Carrie’s “the mask” Chow Xingqi’s character is killed in a horrible accident, and his body is replaced with one that just doesn’t quite meet up to expectations (mainly because they had a body of 6 thousand dollars instead of 6 million) funny things happen, and Chow Xingqi gets to play around with computer effects for the first time in any of his major movies.
• From Beijing With Love (1994) (own-dvd) :: A parody of James Bond, one of my personal favorites, but I’ve been told that other people didn’t really like it. If you like James Bond, and you like Chow Xingqi, then you’ll LOVE this movie.
• Hail the Judge (1994) (own-dvd) :: One of my all time favorite Chow Xingqi movies, I put it in the top 5 list. Xingqi is a corrupt lawyer who is always out for the buck, until a beautiful woman finds herself on the floor of his court, instead of taking his money and running, he stands up for her. Problem is that this woman’s attacker is in fact the son of the navy admiral of china, and chow xingqi has to go on the run, to find the truth and learn some mad skills in order to save the woman’s life.
• Love on Delivery (1994) (own-dvd) :: My ALL TIME FAVORITE chow xingqi movie, this one is filled with comedy, love, action, laughs and more. This is just a really light hearted story, with good acting, fun characters and lots of comedy violence.
• All's Well, Ends Well (1992) (own-dvd) :: This is a movie about a family, a REALLY dysfunctional Family… Lots and lots of comedy antics ensue between a unfaithful husband and her wife (and the mistress), a gay homemaker and flower arranger (who’s actually gay in real life too), a butch aunt, senile grandparents, and Chow Xingqi, who falls in love, is unfaithful to that love, then loses his memory and goes crazy =)
• Fight Back to School II (1992) (own-dvd) :: The sequel to Chow Xingqi’s break through movie, Fight Back to school. Still REALLY funny, but not as good as the original.
• Fight Back to School III (1992) (own-dvd) :: The sequel to the sequel of Chow Xingqi’s break through movie, Fight Back to school. Has nothing to do with a school or anything, its really WEAK!
• Royal Tramp 2 (1992) (own-vhs) :: The second part of my top 5 Chowxingqi movie Royal Tramp, follow Chowxingqi as he gets it on with tons of women, and plays both sides of the fight over and over again.
• Fight Back to School (1991) (own-dvd) :: Chow Xingqi’s break through movie, this movie grossed a ton of money and is a real riot. Chow Xingqi is a detective who has to pose as a highschool student to break a crime ring within a school. Only problem is, he quickly finds himself in the position of school crime lord, and we forget what side he’s playing for, all while he’s trying to play after his math teacher!
• Legend of the Dragon (1991) (own-dvd) :: A really funny movie that follows the story line of a young Chinese mainland farmer who’s brought to the mainland by his uncle to make some cash. Chowxingqi has a knack for billiards, one unsurpassed in the world, problem is due to his Confucian upbringing he cannot gamble, in fact if he finds out that he’s gambleing he loses all his concentration and skills…. What happens when chow xingqi’s father’s farmland is put on the line and chowxingqi knows that its gambleing!
• The Magnificent Scoundrels (1991) (own-dvd) :: Several groups of criminals are all out to extort some high rollers, problem is the high rollers are on vacation, and the criminals end up trying to extort eachother!
• Royal Tramp (1991) (own-dvd) :: One of the best ChowXing Qi Movies Ever, a must see. Chowxingqi lives by nothing but his wit, and he’s got lots of it. Its ancient china and he must use his quick mouth to keep himself from getting killed, something lots of people wanna do. He finds himself as a unich (which he’s not) within the the royal palace, being tempted by the empress, her daughter and the women trying to overthrow the empire!
• Tricky Brains (1991) (seen) :: A really funny funny older chowxingqi movie, a lot of people say that this is his best movie, and I can see why. It’s a non stop roller coaster of laughs and puns.
• Fist of Fury 1991 (1991) (own-vcd) I only have this movie in Cantonese so I can’t give a good run down of it for you guys.
• All For the Winner (1990) (own-vcd) Chow XingQi goes to meet his uncle in HK, he is a farm boy from china without any fathom of how life in the big city works (havn’t we heard this plot a heck of a lot) anyways, it turns out he has a gift for gambleing, in fact its more like superpowers. His uncle is out to exploit this gift to the max, and chaos ensues. This movie joins Chow Xingqi into the annals of the God of Gamblers (chow yun fatt) series, as the Saint of gamblers.
• Curry and Pepper (1990) (haven't seen)
• Lung Fung Restaurant (1990) (haven't seen)
• Triad Story (1990) (haven't seen)
• God of Gamblers II (Saint of gamblers series, follows after all for the winner) (seen) Continuation of the story of All for the winner.
• Unmatchable Match (1990) (own-dvd) A story about a family who’s trenched deep within the Chinese mob, this is a really sad story about the children of the mafia, who don’t necessarily want to be part of it. Not a comedy.
• Just Heroes (1989) (haven’t seen)
• Dragon Fight (1988) (havn’t seen)
• Faithfully Yours (1988) (own-dvd) A Quaint little story about 3 friends who all get drunk and one of them gets a girl pregnant, one problem, they all love the girl and refuse to allow the others to marry her. So an all out battle ensues in order to win her hand, this being because the father won’t allow anyone to marry her unless he first pays 1 million dollars for taking her virginity. This is a surprisingly funny movie considering the bulk of Chowxingqi’s earlier work, which is mostly lukewarm.
• Final Justice (1988) (haven’t seen)
• He Who Chases After the Wind (1988) (haven't seen)
• My Hero (????) (haven’t seen)
• Look Out Officer (????) (own-dvd) An earlier chowxingqi movie about a young police officer who is possessed by the ghost of a dead police officer in order to avenge his death. This movie is pretty funny, and a must see for a true chow xingqi fan, even if it’s a little hokey.
• King of Beggars (????) (own-dvd) Chow Xingqi plays a rich young man who wants to compete to be the greatest warrior in China. He easily wins all of the physical examinations, but he’s illiterate so is forced to cheat on the written exam. The emperor strips him of his title, his land and his money for cheating, and forces him to be a beggar. But he quickly finds himself as the KING OF BEGGARS… a really funny movie, must see for chow xingqi fans.
• Flirtong Scholar (????) (haven’t seen)
• God of Gamblers 3 (????) (saint of gamblers series) (own-dvd) Just another movie in the saint of gamblers movie chain. ChoW Xingqi goes back in time to play against the greatest card player in history, comedy antics ensue.
• The Mad Monk (????) (havn’t seen)
• Justice My Foot! (????) (seen) Kind of Lukewarm humor, lots puns.. don’t remember the plot too well ~_~ sorry
• Alls well that ends well 1997 (sequel to alls well that ends well) (haven’t seen) I made the mistake of watching this movie before the first alls well that ends well, I didn’t get any of the jokes and just thought it was stupid, so I stopped watching it… however I’m sure it’s a great movie, I just need another operatunity to watch it =)
• Love Is Love (????) (own-dvd) Chow Xingqi and Sandra Ng play a couple who elope from the country side in order to have a life together. But money problems drive them far apart, and Chow Xingqi ends up having an affair with the president of the company he works for while his wife gets more and more distant, not a comedy, but a movie that questions wether its possible to have two masters in life, your job and your family.
• Forbidden City Cop (????) (own-dvd) Chow Xingqi plays one of the 5 defenders of the forbidden city. The rest of the 5 have super powers like streghth or swordsmanship, but chowxingqi uses his head, and usually ends up failing. He ends up losing his job, but while he’s gone the 4 other warriors are defeated, can xingqi return and save the day, using nothing but his stupid inventions?
Just a note, there are probably movies he's done which aren't listed here, i'm pulling this list out of my memory and off of webpage, which usually isn't a good combination ~_~ |

One of my favorite movies is the Fist of Fury series. The first is really funny and it even got a God of Gamblers cameo of himself in the beginning.
The second one was also very funny, only problem is that I don't remember much of it now. That's because I saw it when I was a child.
Fight back to school is also a favorite of mine. It also got great jokes and the scissors leg cameo is also funny.
I think all his movies are very funny, except the ones in the beginning of his carrier (since they were mostly dramas) and a few other I thought were lame. |
