As in, what sort of manga do you want us to do in the near future? I'm looking for comments like: "I want to become a banker, so I would like to see a manga dealing with finance", or: "there's this suicidal guy I know, so I want to show him a really depressing story that would push him over the edge" or: "I want a manga that's about paper-rock-scissors and tightrope walking" or: "I only want you guys to do Shonen Jump manga".
Please note that whatever you say in this thread will have no influence whatsoever on us, as we basically do whatever the hell we want to regardless of whether you like it or not. I'm just genuinely curious here. |

If you want a response out of the leeches, I'd think it best to promise that you'd "take all your opinions into consideration" or some other bull that gives them a false sense of importance and empowerment, thereby goading them into posting. In any case...
Paper-rock-scissors and tight-rope walking manga would be nice. As would its sequel, the dice-and-slots manga.
Loan sharks from Osaka manga would be cool too.
As for manga that doesn't have absolutely horrible art, "Love-yan" by Tamaru Kouji would be a rather amusing title to see scanlted. |

You know, I actually translated the first chapter of the paper-rock-scissors manga when I was an unemployed bum living off of the money that my girlfriend loaned me (too much time on my hands). Unfortunately, I then lost all motivation to translate the subsequent chapters, probably because I found its length to be somewhat daunting. If I do it (which is a very big if), I'll probably just do the paper-rock-scissors arc and stop there.
I agree that the loan shark from Osaka manga would be cool, but as you might guess, I'm not really crazy about the idea of dealing with the financial terms (not to mention the length of the series itself)... |

Anything from the following list:
=====
Zeni Geba (Money Crazy) by George Akiyama
When Futaro was five years old, his father left his home. Futaro's mother got sick in poverty. Also, Futaro has a ugly face, like Quasimodo. He's been discriminated against and treated like trash by almost everyone in his neighborhood. Finally, his mother dies because they can't afford medical treatment. Burying his mother's body, Futaro makes up his mind to do anything for money. By chance he's hired as a servant in a millionaire's house. He demonstrates his talent for business and takes care of the millionaire's disabled ugly daughter—in order to seduce her. After he marries her, he kills his father-in-law and takes over his business empire. He abuses his handicapped wife to death, kills his own baby, spreads pollution from his factories, and makes victims out of a lot of people. This picaresque epic, based on Shakespeare's Richard V, was published in the early 1970's, after the dream of revolution was defeated by capitalism. The most incredible thing about it is that the comic was featured in Shonen Sunday, a comic magazine for grade schoolers. I was one of its readers. I still remember the shock when I read the scene Futaro slaps a woman's face with a handful of bucks, and she willingly opens her body for him.
Harenchi Gakuen (Shameless School) by Go Nagai
This is the legendary Go Nagai's breakthrough work. Harenchi Gakuen is an elementary school whose teachers and students are all perverts. Boys peep girls changing. Girls pull up their skirts and show off their panties. Actually, it's not as evil as you imagine. They're like cubs playing together. It's only pre-school eroticism, nothing sexual, because, in fact, the author knew nothing about SE xwhen he drew the comic! (He was a teenager.) In spite of that, Harenchi Gakuen became a sensation. Parents, teachers, and politicians hysterically attacked the comic's immorality. Finally the magazine publisher decided to cancel it. In the last episode, the PTA teams up with conservative politicians to destroy the school. They order the army to attack the school, and the teachers and students fight back—for their freedom! A girl's head was decapitated by bullets. Guts spilled out from a boy's stomach. The message was clear. War is more immoral than anything. Oh yeah, and it was thirty years ahead of South Park!
The World is Mine by Hideki Arai
It's Clockwork Orange meets Natural Born Killers. The hero is Mon, a monster of free will. For no reason or with no emotion, he kills people. He doesn't talk much, so no one knows what's on his mind. His sidekick is Toshi, who's always expressing his hatred against humankind. Toshi and Mon start their killing spree in Hokkaido, the north end of Japan, and kill their way to Tokyo. Japanese police hunt desperately for them, but no one can stop them on their way to the capital. Meanwhile, as if following them, is Higumadon, a Godzilla-like gigantic red bear from Hokkaido. It stomps everything in its way. Finally Toshi-Mon blackmail the prime minister into doing striptease broadcast on national television. This story sounds really stupid and meaningless, but The World is Mine is meticulously rendered in detailed super-realism. The art is elaborate, bullets tear off an innocent pedestrian's head, eyeballs pop out, brain splatters. Toshi mercilessly stabs a mother who tries to protect her baby and stomps the little one to death. To get through this comic is a challenge to your humanity.
This is the Art! by Jun Hayami
This collection of short stories is supposed to be a most notorious nightmare in Japanese comic history. We see a pretty and innocent teenage girl's happy and healthy daily life, like talking and laughing with her friend, write a poem to her platonic boyfriend, and doing practice of cheerleading, in beautiful and romantic style like Shojo-Manga. Suddenly, it's interrupted by a picture that her face being crushed by a dropping concrete block. We realize that was her memory flashback in the moment that she was raped and killed by a psycho killer. And another story is about sissy narcissist boy who loves himself. He cut his under berry and put his penis in the slit in order to fuck himself! Every readers thought Jun Hayami must be a mentally ill until he was found 2 years ago.
Manga Sagawa-san (Mr. Sagawa's Comic) by Kazumasa Sagawa
In the song "Too Much Blood," Mick Jaggar asked, "Do you remember Japanese student kill and ate his girlfriend in Paris?" That world-wide-known cannibal is Kazumasa Sagawa. He was eventually released by French authorities because he was diagnosed with a mental disorder. He was sent to Japan, but Japanese psychologists couldn't find anything wrong with his mental condition, so he went free! In his own comic, written and drawn by himself, Sagawa details the murder and the banquet just like a gourmet guide. "The flesh of her butt is incredibly soft and juicy like genuine filet." Does it make you feel rush into a rest room or Sizzler?
Tatakae! Dainippon Teikoku (The Japanese Imperial, Go!) by Shintaro Kago
This story is an alternate history of WWII by one of the artists who appeared in Secret Comics Japan. The Japanese army have perfected a technique that turns human beings into giants, but for some reason they can only enlarge females. Patriot girls dedicate themselves to their great emperor and become giant weapons against the inhuman Allies. The girls are customized for each purpose. Some girls are made into tanks and some girls are made into battleships. Their guns are their asses and their bullets are their hard constipated shits.
Jukai Shonen Zooichi (Zooichi the Jungle Boy) by Gataro Man
Gataro Man self-evalues his own works as kusoman. That means "shit comic." Literally, his art, subjects, and everything are like trashy, super ugly, and scatological, like pre-school kid's scribbling. That's why kids love him. Zooichi has a barely stable story. Every episode is filled with a flood of diarrhea, shit, and vomit. But that didn't stop Shonen Jump, the largest circulating magazine in human history, from featuring this guy's outsider art.
Ikiru (To Live) by Takashi Nemoto
Nemoto is the king of the Trash Comics. His art is the ugliest a human being can create. The hero is a wimpy and polite middle-aged man named Murata. He always suffers and is tortured in ways you can barely imagine. In one episode, he gerts mixed up with Sakichi, a trashy brutal guy, due to a teleportation machine accident. You can tell it's a rip-off of Cronenberg's The Fly, but things gets worse. Sakichi's crotch was replaced by Murata's head. Murata finds Sakichi's penis sticks out from his mouth! Sakichi doesn't care about Murata and fucks his 50-year-old wife anyway. In the conclusion, they try to separate their bodies through the teleportation machine, but its fails again. This time, Murata's face is placed on Sakichi's asshole. Sakichi's shit comes out of Murata's mouth.

He, you've asked for it.
If those stuff are too bizarre for ya, I'd be content to see MS doing Hitoshi Tomizawa's "Propeller Heaven". |

Kotonoha--Believe it or not, Hayami is being translated next year, officially, in the UK of all places. One of the last guys I ever thought would be published in the West. I wonder if it will run into censorship problems... As for the others on your mock-list, I don't like "The World Is Mine"; if any Arai were to be translated, it should be "Lovely Irene". I read a few used copies last week and it was one of the grubbier, more uncomfortable (albeit very funny) things I've read in recent memory. The Kago is stupid. Kago has talent but often blows it on excess: unless exploding-women-plus-excrement and cheap shock value is your thing, it's best to avoid.
Summer: I'm really content with what is already being translated, so it's hard for me to come up with any real suggestions (as opposed to wishful thinking). I think that more one-shots is a good road to take. I've already posted my #1 pick: Iou Kuroda's short stories. I'd also like to see more stories from Comic Cue, but two of my favorites, Chuya Chikazawa & Shunji Enomoto's hilarious "Our Animal Family" and Yoko Nihonbashi's
"Flower", might be inappropriate content-wise for Manga Screener.
The same is true for a lot of the series I would like to see translated. Perhaps Akira Sasou's "Shindo" might be a good choice? "Only" 4 volumes and it could fit in nicely with some of the other series here. Although the Sasou fans I know like his short stories the best. |

Chris V - Hell, if somebody could get me scans for "Our Animal Family" (although I might translate the title to something like "The Family Zoo"), I'd translate it instantly for a group like Band of the Hawks or Omanga. That's one of my favorite Comic Cue manga, along with Iou Kuroda's "Metropolis". I personally would love to take the more one-shots road (not that I'm really in a position to make these kinds of high decisions at MS...), and Comic Cue would obviously be one of the best sources for that. Someone out there willing to get scans (*nudges Kotonoha *)?
I agree that Sasou is at his best when he's doing short stories. I like his longer workd too ("Shindo" and "Toto no Sekai"), but I don't think you can beat his short story collections, from his killer sense of humor in "Tamaki Toyohiko-kun Satsujin-jiken" or "Ore-tachi ni Asu wa Naissu!", to the bone-chilling effect of "Fujisan" to some of his warmer stories I've read in Ikki and Cue.
And damnit, don't dis Shintaro Kago! I love that guy!
Kotonoha - I think Jinmen Juushin has their eyes on The World Is Mine. George Akiyama would definitely be an interesting artist to feature (not that I feel like translating his works at the moment), but if MS ever did a Man Gatarou work, we'd probably lose nanashi |

If you did Jigoku Koushien, I'd probaby be awstruck just because somebody decided they'd actually spend time working on that thing.
As for The World is Mine, they'd have to get an awfully good translator for it: half of the manga is in Aomori-ben, among numerous other complications. |

i'll take a few of these please.
oh actually anything by Junji Ito that's not licensed I would love too.
edit: after a little research, i found out that Kazumasa Sagawa's art sucks big time and the manga looks like a 8 year old drew it. I also found out that he starred in a porno named "Spanking Love". |

I'm not a big fan of Love Yan, although it does have some funny moments.
Since that one group dropped Mushishi, I think we should do it. Now, I don't know that I'm offering to do the translation here, but it's a good manga that someone should be working on.
Oh, and I still think we should do 2-3 chapters of Golgo 13.
