Erutan, obviously I did not make myself clear enough, which is my fault. I'm not saying this thread was ToTan bashing, however I did somewhat take some offense to some remarks made against the validity of ToTan's translations and speculations on "cheating" at translating. That was mearly all I was getting at.

Isnt Anime-Kraze also doing a sub?

http://www.anime-kraze.net

Wow. Monster is REALLY getting popular. I am very happy this is happening. I got 4 new users in IGN hooked on Monster (and now looking into other Naoki works).

Any news about Monster getting licensed yet? and where do you check for such news?

usually the place to go look is over at AnimeonDVD for licences. AnimeNewsNetwork is also another spot, but sometimes they just have rumors and what not.

Hmm... Since Stephen says the other three groups are having trouble with the end lyrics, I should probably point this out:

And slowly, you come to realize
It's all as it should be
You can only do so much...

If you're game enough
You could place your trust in me

For the love of life
There's a trade-off
We could lose it all
But we'll go down fighting

Those are from http://www.davidsylvian.net, so it isn't like you'd be stealing our translation by using them. You may as well get them right.

Here's a nice visual comparison of the four current monster ep 1 fansubs: http://imokie.is.dreaming.org/monster_screenshots.html

You be the judge. Cool

Wow, are people actually signing up to this forum just for Monster? oO

Well, since I quit fansubbing before I even started, I can't really say which of those screencaps look the most High Quality and what not. I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking for. I'm just going by how the dialogue was worded and the typesetting, but A-Kraze seems to be the best.

I did. I think the fansub comparison is pretty neat. ^_^ To be honest, I only came to this site in the first place because of the anime.

As an aside... How many posts does it take before I get a forum title that doesn't assume I'm a guy? -_-

I'd comment on the screenshots... but they were posted on IRC a while ago (so I already got that rant out of my system), and I'd just be biased anyway. ;)

Maybe they should implement a gender selection to this forum's script.

WTF are you talking about? What part of a-k's translation is "engrish"?

Quote:

i just have one thing to say, Stephen when u see DR. Tenma ask him for a operation you really need it.
PS. make sure it is initiated first.

I have no idea what you are trying to say here.

Are you saying the word "initiated" is wrong? The original word is "okonawareteiru", which can mean "perform" but it could also mean that the operation was started first. I would pick "initiate" or "begin" because the operation obviously wasn't *finished* first otherwise Tenma wouldn't have had to leave the operating room and the whole episode's premise would be gone.

What does Stephen have to do with that?

Am I right in assuming that you are from one of the other three fansub groups?

akraze quote Episode 01, frame 21520: "The Turk's operation was initiated first."
who the hell talks like that.
not to talk about the encoding Skillz of that ep, wich is by far the worse , darker and blurred.
Edited.
No iam not from one of the others groups.

It sounds perfectly fine to me. I guess we can see from the English level of your posts that you obviously don't talk like that, but most people aren't limited to words learned in fourth grade or below.

Sometimes "tehy went first!!!1" just doesn't cut it, I guess.
And as kern sort of pointed out, if you're going to criticize the English used in a translation, it helps to at least spell "which" correctly and caplitalize "I" in "I am." You know, to try and give your statement the tiniest semblance of credibility.

A genderless one would be better, or none at all, as hyah213 pointed out. No one here needs that much information about a person.

I watched ToTan's episode 2, and they did put more effort into the editing this time. I still haven't made it very far into the manga, though, so I can't comment on their script. But I do think someone should point out that the second episode isn't as error-ridden as the first one was.

As for the initiated/performed lines... I don't see a major problem with either interpretation. Naturally, if that's the word the translator chose, the editor probably wouldn't have wanted to change it. Maybe I'm too liberal. =P But it certainly isn't "Engrish."
