Concerning Beck....

i was just wondering, if Beck is an inactive project? sry for askin somethin like this, but just seems dat it is no longer one of ur main projects and is never updated. Though i rly appreciate all u guys have done on beck, it is one of the few mangas i rly wait for.

Yeah it's been a long time since the last time we released any Beck. Trust me, it is coming. First we are going to release some nice versions of chapters 1-4 so that they are the same level of quality as the rest. Good things come to those who wait... it will be worth it when we do release.

Hiya, I'm kinda new here but, I was just wondering if there was any scheduleing for when different files were cycled from Http to IRC and back. Mostly I am concerned with mainly the "Beck" releases, but any information you could provide on the the site in general would be appreciated. I'm currently deployed away from my homestation so I use a Gov't owned computer for my surfing and I am unable to use IRC so I'm not above a bit of begging if that's what nessary to get a "Beck" fix. Laughing

I have only recently stumbled on to the scanlation sites and I have noted that I have seen maybe one or two sites that have any type of ads at all and your site has none and thus the money for the all of the work you do must come from your own pockets. Shocked

That boggles my mind. I just want to stop and say "thanks".
Thank you all for all the time and effort you put into scanlations. I will contine to frequent this site for sometime to come and I just want you all to know that it is appreciated.

As for the question at hand, I'm guessing Beck's never gonna be released for the general public on http since we don't have any webspace with unmetered traffic. You're gonna have to ask Izumi probably.

can u use bit torrent? i'm guessing it's a no no if you have irc blocked, but my work doesn't allow irc but allowed bittorrent for a while.

And actually we are pretty ghetto as far as groups go... the reason why we don't have any http downloads on the site isn't because we're cheap and we can't pay for a good host, it's because we're REALLY cheap and we have friends who are in a position to get a site like ours (no manga, just a site) hosted for free. I suppose Izumi paid for the domain name but otherwise we're just thrifty. There are people who put up stuff on their own webspace for download, but we only offer the links through irc because they're mostly little edu spaces and wouldn't be suitable for the heavy hits they would take from listing them on the front page.
Anyhow, its possible that we could put some stuff on the site, under the radar, but the cheetaweb folks told us we couldn't have a bunch of zips for download so I wouldn't want them to catch us behind their backs and have the situation turn ugly.

of course you could always go with bit torrent. At the moment you could use the mircx anime\manga tracker, maybe even get them to host the .torrent, but of course then keeping files seeded becomes the problem. Keeping one or two torrents going would be no problem - hell I could do that - but MS is already doing that much as it is. I suppose you could cycle through torrents every couple of weeks, seeding only 2 or 3 at a time. But that would require, like regular updates fo the website and stuff Razz

And still there is a lot of people who for one reason or another can't use bit torrent. Personally I don't really care though. It isn't that hard to get files off irc.

Hmmm.... i *could* write a download script that regulates how often people can download a certain thing. Do you think it would be used? Ie it would limit the number of times a file can be downloaded a day period and force people to download only once every 10 minutes or so. I'd have to think about how to do that without people being able to get around it though; i'm thinking of something like TW does except slightly more restrictive. :)

Thanks for the feedback, everybody. I know little better how everything stands here and I thank you for the info. As for bittorrent, Spaceman spork, that IS a big no-no here, so I am outta luck on that front. As for others if you want to see more Beck just like I do, post here expressing that need, with "I WANT BECK!!!" in all caps and at least three exclaimtion points. If you want it as much as me Izumi will see what can be done about fufilling that need.

Now the following is a messsage for anyone possessing Beck chapters beyond chapter 7. If you could e-mail them to me, I be willing to e-mail you any of the the downloads I have for Greenwood, Mar, Star Ocean, W-juliet, and Eden's Bowy. If none of that floats your boat I do have anime music mp3's and midi's, if you want specifics send me an e-mail. And finally if you are just a kind and caring soul and just want to send me the Beck chapters, I desire out of the kindness of your heart, please don't just send them to my hotmail it has a limited mailbox space, I will give you different e-mail address to send them to if you just send me an e-mail.

On a final note for all others when or if I finally do recieve the Beck chapters I'm after I will provide them to anybody else who wants them by e-mail free of charge for a few days afterwards ,the computers here are wiped weekly to prevent harboring any nasty virsus or unauthorized material, so depending on the day of the week I recieve them they will be available for longer.
