So how come no-one's made a topic for this yet?

Obviously I like this manga, as do all of the other staff who have commented on it, but what about everyone else?

The historic aspects are kind of... well...

But it's all in good fun.

Vikings don't have manga hair for one thing BUT....

I like it. Reminds me of Berserk, which I also love. I'm interested to see more character development after the opening battle.

I guess the boy was pretty lucky that there was someone who could speak Norse, eh?

Speaking of the boy, what was his name again? Did such a kingdom exist? If the Norse lose a bit of men every time they enter battle, who rows the boats then...?

So many questions. Oh well, I guess I'll have to read more Berserk for the answers. Oh my bad, this was Vinland Saga...

It wasn't that bad. In fact, I think I liked it.

Wow, that was really really amazing, thanks for doing this!

As for the historical aspects being off, I always thought of the artist as being super accurate with his details/research as seen in Planetes.

Before reading the manga I was quite curious as to how the colored pages would turn out. Reading Planetes ,the colored art style seemed to be delibrately done in a pastel-ly, space age/sci fi style to suit the story. But reading Vinland Saga, the color style seems somewhat similar to Planetes so I guess it's his regular style.

I really liked all the humour, that was a great first chapter. I predict this will be one of the best manga ever. Again thanks for doing this!

Seems good so far! It is a bit reminiscent of Berserk, yeah. No bad thing imho.

Does anyone else feel that eyeballs and sharp objects exhibit a strange magnetic attraction to one another in this manga, by the way?

a new favorite!

funny that the mangaka names his mercenary band leader 'askeladd'. could it be from 'askeladden' (literally, 'ash-lad'), frequent hero of norse folklore?

translator question: what's the purpose of the cajun-ny accent for the frankish troops with the boats stranded by the waterfalls? were they speaking in dialect or something?

Yes, in Japanese his name is phonetically spelled "asheraddo."
And yes, those guys were speaking a horrifically hokey "country" dialect, hence the horrifically hokey accent.

first thought was: let's wait before there are some more chapters out.
But then i read it anyways and it is so great! I didn't like planets, which all the volumes got already released in austria, so i waited until now downloading it.

I hope, that this manga will last more volumes then planets.

You didn't like Planetes? Are you not human? Not sure you should
be allowed to read Vinland Saga.

what is so good about planetes? I really like most of the manga that gets scanlated here, but planetes?

I have to say that i only read the first volume but i really was bored! And yes, i can still remember what happened in the first volume - i didn't like it.

And why should i not be allowed to read vinland saga? in my opinion it is totally different! Even people in this thread sayed it's totally different. So why?

PS: I really appriciate your work on H2, hyah 213!

Planetes is one of the best mangas ever created - and it's not only my opinion. I can't tell you why it is so great - but I had shivers while reading it - and it doeasn't happen that often... It has great characters, great plot, very good art... Everything good comic should have. And it have that something which makes book or comic unique. Really unique. I havent yet found it in Vinland Saga, but I have faith in Makoto Yukimura and that he will make his next work as good, unique as Planetes. In my opinion you should give Planetes one more try, you won't regret it.

And we only started scanlating VS becouse most of our staff liked Planetes greatly and we believe this manga will be at least as great - so far it has better art, but that's not what's the most important :]
