Hey guys. I want to buy Beck, but I need a few peoples opinions on it. Should I buy the japanese edition of Beck, or should I wait for some english company to license it and probably kill some chapters and then buy it?
Thanks |

I am going to go out on a limb here and assume you cannot read the original Japanese version.
Therefore I humbly suggest that you purchase the English-language edition which you would actually be able to read. |

I will mostly agree with what Neuroretardant has said, but add that if you wish to one day be able to read Japanese (or at least enough to read Beck), it might be worth it to purchase the Japanese version.
I have purchased a large amount of the manga in Japanese to these ends, but I also somewhat regret it. While it has helped me learn Japanese (read alongside Stephen's translations) to some extent, it was too advanced in the beginning and I still can only read maybe 30% without consulting a dictionary.
In short, purchase the English version when/if it comes out as Neuroretardant has recommended UNLESS you don't care about instant gratification and don't mind expending a lot of effort.
Alternatively, print out the releases and staple them together! [/scarcasm] |

I see. Then why did MS take their time and make a txt version of the translations on the site? |

Unless I'm being stupid doesn't Beck have furigana? Therefore it's a worthwhile purchase if you're a fan and know a little Japanese and have the text translations to hand. |

Buy both.
But I wouldn't recommend ONLY getting the Japanese version... unless you can read Japanese, as opposed to being just a learner. If you buy it to learn Japanese, not only will you enjoy the story less by comprehending it less than a 5 year old, but it won't really improve your Japanese very much anyway. |

What if just for collection-wise, then? |

can't get either cause i live in portugal, it would be ridicously expensive to import it from the states or what so ever.
it's not licensed here so i have to keep purchasing it from the net. |

Im pretty sure you DON'T have to, and not really "purchase" it...the word you need is "stealing". |

You also support the japanese to english translations if you purchase it.
Currently it's still underground and I don't think a lot of people know about it. |
