Hey pnyxtr, do you know anything about Yukimi Nagano's new band? The band (Little Dragon, I think it was called) is coming to Japan in August to support Sleep Walker, and you can bet your ass I'll be there. I can guarantee you that there will be a riot if she doesn't sing a few songs with Sleep Walker.

I don't really know much about the band, other than that it is indeed called Little Dragon. They seem pretty popular with the critics here, anyway. (But they don't play entirely my kind of music.)

If there's one thing the French know, it's good electro music. Another great discovery in a genre which pretty much spurred forth from Daft Punk's Robot Rock; and treading in the footsteps of Justice.

Speaking of French electro, I was listening to Justice here, despite the fact that they got a hit song before I even heard of them. (Oohhh, I can feel the cred being sucked out of my body!)

Deicide - Scars of the Crucifix

Death from "the Sunshine State", yeah right.
Or that's what I thought. But they're actually pretty catchy, this album in particular. There are a lot of riffs here that remind me of Pantera, but with a deathy twist.

It got even better after reading this on allmusic.com: "Their Stockholm, Sweden, concert was canceled after four songs when a bomb was discovered on-stage." Must've been some really underground people from our lands who were jealous of the usurpers from the west ;)

Iceland Airwaves

Acts worth mentioning: Bonde Do Role, Chromeo, FM Belfast (best thing since sliced bread, like literally), Of Montreal, Dr. Spock (second best thing), Mum, Hairdoctor, Trentemoller, Amiina (thoroughly awesome, poised to be the next sigurros)

Acts I wish I didn't have to see: none really, then again, I never showed up until the bands I really wanted to see were playing so whatever

Missed due to retarded arrangement of bands between venues making it impossible to see a goddamn thing: Deerhoof (apparently one of the best shows of the festival), Buck 65 (i cry), Lali Puna (although their stage show is apparently about as much fun as watching paint peel), shitton of icelandic bands that i had to skip due to work.

but all in all, not a bad way to spend a weekend.

Amiina is great. Really relaxing. It's close to being "boring" but I enjoy it.

David Hasselhoff - The Night Before Christmas

It can't be possible to surpass this album as a purveyor of Christmas spirit.

Worlds End Girlfriend, Envy, Mono and Explosions in the Sky (in that order) playing at Shibuya AX

This concert was three days ago and my right ear is still out of commission. I blame it entirely on Worlds End Girlfriend which was a very painful experience devoid of music (came half an hour late so there is always the chance there was some music during the first halfhour but i really doubt it).

Envy were awesome although I hate to be all cliche but I think I like their old stuff better.

Mono, also awesome. Especially when they left the stage. As soon as the drummer hit the last beat he stood up and screwed a tom from its stand and then ran off the stage, the rest of the band tossed their instruments on the floor and jetted off in the opposite direction. Very odd all in all.

Explosions in the Sky were exactly as good as I had heard and louder than I dreamed.

It makes me sad to see this thread so neglected so

Fancy - Les Rois Du Monde

Fancy are a french trio that sound like an art rock version of motley crue. somehow.

The band been around since 2003 but put out their first cd in may this year on Exclaim records. For some odd reason this was a Japan only release which doesn't really make so much sense, seeing as if you slap a 'busy p remix' sticker on anything it's guaranteed to sell (or at least get downloaded) like hotcakes.
But anyway, there's really no weak point on the album, if I was forced to name one it would be the busy p remix, which i'm not quite sure what is doing there anyway.
Highlights are instant classics such as the 'I'm so Excited' cover, the epic 'Xiaomara' which has the mostest coolest flanged bassline ever and '17 (Wollmar Yxkullsgatan)'.

Bass + flanger is a combination that sees much too little use.

Also, here's Wollmar Yxkullsgatan 17. A bit strange to name a song after an unhip building like that, I would say.

if you want to read something into the lyrics here they are:

Ett, Tva, Tre, Fyr

(verse)
You're saying to me that tomorrow is gonna be my birthday
And it's a very bad news today
You can imagine all my feelings
it gave me quite a turn
i won't spoil the fun
i reach now the years of discretion
i'm going on for a depression
there's something wrong between me and my body
my mirror becomes my worst enemy
and it will be the end if i get rusty

(chorus)
seventeen i want to keep my teens
can i buy my dream with a beauty cream
all these magazines get me into a spin
it's not tolerated to get old

(verse)
the situation is coming to a head
what can you expect
you can't change how you're made
it starting again, I got that on my brain
so you're trying to pt my mind at ease
and you say i don't look old for my years
these are the kind of words are sure to please

(chorus)
(chorus)

seventeen i want to keep my teens, seventeen!

if only i could rolled back the years!

one two three four!
un deux trois quatre
en zwei drei vier
ett tva tre fyra

Wollmar Yxkullsgatan 17 seems like a sad place to spend your seventeenth birthday.

calvin harris - i created disco

this album sounds like every saturday evening, around five maybe. After taking a shower one picks a shirt from the closet, tosses it on, runs out to get a couple of beers and a pack of smokes, turns off the lights to enjoy the glow of the evening sun, picks up the phone to follow up on plans made the day before and then goes out to have adventures.

in my particular case, right now noone is answering the goddamn phone so i'm forced to sit around posting on forums, but i don't hold that against calvin harris
oh no i don't

David Hasselhoff - The Very Best Of
The Hurfmaestro isn't kidding. You may have thought that Christmas album blew your mind so much that it could be blown no more, but this one would prove you wrong.
The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.

Of course I uploaded it to the dump for those privileged few who know how to get at it
