What are you reading? (impressions)

Last I read was the original 2 chapters of Riichi Ueshiba's Nazo no Kanojo X, which they apparantly combined into one for the tankouban release. I decided to check them out since I heard it started serialization in April. I've definitely taken a liking to it and would love to read more.

I`m actually in a manga cafe in Mito City in Ibaraki Prefecture now and I just picked up Inu because I heard it mentioned on here once before, Anyway, first page I flipped open to was a scene of Analingus. So naturally I kept reading. It was pretty cool. And I need to get my ass to Mito station less I wait 2 hours to get home.

Hey ten what's up??!?! Chillin like a villain I assume. Inu is a fun read but it's surprising to see how cute/compact Kashiwagi's art was back then... it's noticeably different now.

Yeah I'm totally on the Haruhi Suzumiya bandwagon as well after having watched in a whim... its most definitely one of the most entertaining anime ive watched as of recent.

Mmm reading. I reread the first book of the K.J. Parker Fencer series, which remains as good as I remember it.

As for new reads... the new Iain M. Banks Sci-Fi novel the Algebraist is pretty decent so far.

I think I'm suffering from withdrawal syndrome. Last night I had a dream Mangascreener did a release.

Well, a few years back I dreamed that Viz actually released the third volume of No.5. Boy was I irked when I woke up...
I've gotta say that I really enjoyed the first chapter of Nazo no Kanojo X as well. I had no idea the author started it up again until I checked out translator Andrew Cunningham's site. Kotonoha scanned it back when it was just a one-shot, so hopefully they'll pick it up as a regular series.
As for books, I've started the massive "The Magic Mountain" recently; all indications show that it'll live up to its reputation. I'm also eagerly awaiting Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic new novel "The Road". He's never done a story like this before, but brutal, horrific landscapes are certainly common in his books, so I'm expecting great things from the man.

Actually it was thanks to Andrew mentioning it on AoD, that I decided to read the one-shot. And I do hope as well, Kotonoha decides to scanlate the rest of it in due time.

Yeah basically chilling in Ibaraki of all places. Suprsingly the capital is decently big. It`s no Tokyo obviously but it has its charms. The rest of the prefecture is pretty Inaka though. Since I`m here and can get shit from Amazon.co.jp pretty quickly or head into Mito and try to find it myself (probably won`t have it but anyway), is there anything you can reccomend? I`m probably going to order some Nishioka Kyoudai soon since I can`t find any in bookstores (I did buy an Ikki here which was nice).

Ah fucking train schedules.

Im slowly getting through Bonehunters by Steven Erikson, and once more im so impressed by this guys imagination and world he created...it features new characters, kills some old ones and as always reveals more information about the world...and only reason why im reading i slowly insted of just getting through it in one day is because i dont want to finish it to fast. :} god bless Erikson for writing those books so fast, and not ending them with cliffhangers (GRRM should do the same! :}). Reading this series is pure pleasure - im not even done with this one and i cant wait for next volume :]

Ten: If you can get hold of them, try looking for short story collections from East Press (Comic Cue) or Ohta Books (Erotics F). Lots of great artists with books from them, Iou Kuroda, Daisuke Igarashi, etc. Recently I have really enjoyed two collections from Tobira Oda (Sotto Sukareru and Otoko Royale), really quirky humor, thinking of translating his series Danchi Tomoo from BCSpirits. Also check out Shinkichi Kato's Obrigado, Baka & Gogh or Ranman (which I haven't read yet, it just came out). We are definitely doing some if not all of these for MS.

I picked up Danchi Tomoo and I guess you're right about being left a bit cold at first because I'm left with an urge to beat Tomoo at some points but it has its charms and I will keep reading. I also was able to find, much to my delight, "Kiichi" my one of, if not my favorite, author Hideki Arai (The World is Mine). Quite an interesting read. Definitely has that Arai touch to it.

Speaking of The World Is Mine, there's apparently a new 5-volume edition called The True Testament or something, which has a significant amount of retakes/add-ons to the original, admittedly awfully convoluted story (especially the last couple of volumes). I'll probably pirate it first (if the opportunity arises) before I decide whether to replace my original edition.

Also waiting eagerly to get my hands on the latest volume of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei; lately I find that it doesn't have quite the same dark, self-depreciating edge that the latter volumes of Katte ni Kaizo did but it's still entertaining, not to mention a good way of keeping up with useless pop-culture events/trends in Japan.

Btw anybody wanna buy a full-set of Koi no Mon? I suppose I could take it to the local Book Off but it would probably barely pay for 2 coffess.

Reading the new Yoshihiro Tatsumi collection, Abandon the Old in Tokyo. I have to say it's a suprising improvment over last years Push Man (which I liked alot but was somewhat uneven). The level or quality is consistant aside from a few odd stories, and the several of the volume's stories are incredible (the title piece and a reflection on manga-ka working during the era are particuarlly memorable). This has been selling quite well for D&Q, so hopefully they'll publish more alt. manga of the classic veign, like some of Tsuge's stuff (I can't imagine anyone else doing it aside from Fantagraphics).
I've just started reading The World is Mine in anticipation of Kotonoha scanning Kiichi. I was pleasently suprised, as most accounts I had heard made it out to me a mindless bloodbath.

Kiichi is a rather odd Manga. But then again, which Arai manga isn't odd. I was suprisingly intrigued by the way Arai drew scenes from 9/11.
