Well, everyone on staff knows how much I love this manga, since I've been raving about it ever since I read it earlier this year. The first chapter is a good place to get a feel for the comedy in it and a bit of the pathos, but I really believe that Ressentiment can't be fully appreciated until you can see just how tightly-knit his plotting is and how it all works together. It might seem ugly and callous on first glance, but give it a chance and I feel confident that you will agree, this is one of the funniest, raunchiest, and yes, most touching manga we've ever worked on. |

So far, great fun. The concept of a fat, balding loser wallowing in his own self misery doesn't sound particularly uplifting, but Hanazawa's pulling it off with a remarkable pace in storytelling and wit. The art is excellent, too, with facial expressions that almost seem to borrow a little from Minoru Furuya from time to time.
It's just one chapter to base an opinion on, but I'll at least keep my eyes open for upcoming installments. |

Thanks for doing this!
As far as first chapters go, i think Ressentiment's is really great. Lol, "Happy birthday, and thank you for being born", that was beautiful and sweet..i can totally relate to the main character; so imagining how he feels, it was really touching |

I actually thought that was the most satiric line of the entire chapter. |

Actually, remember that quote, and the entire exchange at the very end of the chapter, because it ties into the very finale of the whole manga, though not in the way you might expect. |

Um well.. enough so that i really feel for the character and can find the line "thank you for being born" very sweet and touching rather than satiric or anything.
The second chapter was unexpected though. |

Quite enjoying this so far. Coming into it I was expecting something ultra bitter and satirical, but I must say you do feel for that pathetic bastard. A weekly release would be awesome as well. |

He's not completely pathetic. (Pretty damned close, though.)
Not that it matters, pathetic characters make for more interesting leads than ultra cool ones. |
