talk about a show with an inappropriate opening sequence. i cannot think of a single show that has a more mismatched opening for the show content. it's all happy, bright, crayon-colored pictures and a very groovy opening song, and the first episode seemed fairly on target with this opening sequence. but then BAM! super depressed girl enters right and things drive straight into the realm of ultra-seriousness with murder, suicide, and mental illness abound. now, it's all very captivating and a decent enough story, but why the upbeat opening? irony? or are they purposely trying to lure children into watching stuff meant for older teens, tobacco-company style? discuss amongst yourselves

do you remember gainax's gunbuster anime...
it was one of the most depressing anime ever made... but they ended every episode with a cheery upbeat song... it was the only thing that kept me watching ~_~

Well.. I love cute and upbeat things... but I would rather watch something with a pretty depressing storyline.

Oh, maybe I'll check this out.

Sorry for reviving an ancient thread, but I was wondering whether there are text translations of the Narutaru manga anywhere? I really want to buy the original Japanese tankos, since I hear DH edits things and plus is extremely slow, but I don't know Japanese so I'd like it a lot if someone could point me in the right direction. Of course, they might not exist - in that case, please tell me so I don't waste my time searching. Thanks!

I don't think any such scripts exist. I actually got my 12-volume set of Narutaru from a "fan" of mine who recommended it and asked if I would consider translating it, but the loophole was that I didn't really have to if I didn't feel like it for whatever reason. It was a gift either way. Great manga, but I don't have the energy to do it.
