Unless I'm mistaken, I think there is some sort of affiliation (although I'm not sure about the details) between Shogakukan (Shonen Sunday, Big Comic, Spirits, Original, Superior, Young Sunday, Ikki, etc) and Shueisha (Shonen Jump, Young Jump, Margaret, etc), but Kodansha (Shonen Magazine, Young Magazine, Uppers, Morning, Afternoon, Evening, etc) is a completely different entity.

There are lots of other publishers, of course, but those are the big three.

shueisha was originally a branch within shogakukan, but split off into its own company quite a while ago. i believe this was in at least the 1950s, if not earlier. maybe it was the 30s.

So they licensed Berserk. I better tell my sister about this...

Berserk is a manga you almost don't want to see licensed. It is very, very graphic and such (women get raped pretty often...by monsters [i admit it is pretty interesting]). Most any other manga I would be happy about, but with Berserk I am more skeptic than anything else. I don't know what to say.
