20th Century Boys has just won the 48th Shogakukan Manga Award (general category). It's already won the 25th Kodansha Manga Award as well as a runner-up 2002 CG-Arts Committee Media Arts Festival Award.

Urasawa has already won the Shogakukan Manga Award twice, for Yawara (35th) and Monster (46th). Monster also won the 3rd Osamu Tezuka Culture Grand Prize Award and a 1997 runner-up award from the CG-Arts CMAF.

By the way, Nana won the 48th Shogakukan Manga Award in the female-oriented category, along with one other manga.

You gotta admit, you could see this coming from a mile away. But anyway, congratulations to Urasawa for the well-deserved award. Now if only another Shogakukan-based (but unlike Urasawa, not exclusively Shogakukan) artist named Naoki would win this thing. But I might as well hope for the clouds to drop from the sky...

By the way, do you know what the other nominees were?

Yeah, I checked that site too. But like you said, they didn't have it, which is why I asked you. I wish Shogakukan would upgrade their data base to include at least the other nominees. It can't be THAT much of a hassle, can it?

I read several volumes of Konjiki No Gash at a manga cafe once. I suppose it's a good shonen manga, but the feeling I got from it was the same that I get from mangas like Naruto and One Piece--that I'm too old for this. It's not that I don't like all current shonen manga. I like Hikaru No Go, for instance, and I'm pretty sure there's more that I'd like if I was aware of them. But I very obviously don't fit the demographic that shonen magazine editors have in mind as their target audience.

Yo Stephen,

take a look at the site below. It has photos of the award ceremony. We see all prize winners including Mr. Urasawa and Ms. Ai Yazawa (Nana). Neat stuff, hehe. Smile
