Hi, I'm new around here, ^_^

I'm thinking of learning Japanese next year after my major exams. I have been planning on learning it ever since I started reading manga comics (think of all those great Japanese mangas *drools*). Is Japanese a hard language to master? Wait...not master, I mean just be able to speak, write and read proficiently, how long should it take? Just wondering, ^_^

Well it is a complex language especially with 3 writing systems and it's own way of grammar. I'm chinese so I can read kanji easily but I still took 2 years of college level japanese to be able to translate the language. It's challenging but not impossible if you have the interest.

I'm really, really interested in learning Japanese. I'm finishing school next year, so I should have roughly 3-4 months of free time, and what better way to use it than to learn something new? The applications for learning Japanese should be many; Japanese games, comics and stuff, ^_^ Heheheheh. How different is college level Japanese from intensive learn-Japanese-quickly courses?

Those courses teach you enough to get around in Japan, but most of the information is lost after a short period of time, if you stop using it ....

well, most chinese translations are okay in my opinion, and it comes out faster and since I am chinese, it kinda makes it easier although, I won't deny that japanese is easier than chinese or korean.....korean is as hard to learn as Chinese (i kinda tried to learn it then i stopped and started trying to pick up jap)

note:you is just a reference to some person not anyone in particular
