Story. Angel Densetsu, despite its look, is a rather lighthearted gag manga. When I first saw it, back before I ever considered translating manga, I thought it would be a cool thriller/action story, but no... The story is of Kitano Seiichiro, a very kind and pure-hearted young man, with a horrifying, monstrous face. People being what they are, they think he's a terrifying delinquent, and there are plenty of chance misunderstandings (coupled with Kitano's convenient inability to understand what's happening around him) that propel him into the position of "school guardian", a.k.a. head thug on campus. Being Yagi's first serial manga, there is a lot of evolution in the art style. It starts out with awkwardly drawn, tall and thin people and faces, but by the end it's morphed into a very short, round-faced, childlike style. This was a monthly series, and like most monthly series, it's really not much more than average. However, I've got a soft spot for it in my heart, and the characters (as all good manga should) develop into their own hilarious idiosyncrasies over time. Angel Densetsu ran in Monthly Shonen Jump from 1992 to 2000, for a total of 15 volumes. I began working on it in November 2001, and finished March 2008.
