The Gantz manga has so many mysterious settings and storylines that even the magazine editors are starting to forget about them. There are plenty of questions about the daily lives of our familiar characters. Here we will reveal little stories and secrets of Gantz that have not been revealed in the manga! Now, you might know more about the world of Gantz. Or maybe not. [BOX TO LEFT] Gantz Until Now Kurono and Kato get hit by a train as they attempt to save a homeless man who fell onto the tracks in a subway station, but the next instant, they are teleported to an unfamiliar apartment. With them are several other supposedly-dead people like them, and a huge, mysterious black ball named "Gantz." Gantz orders them to do a killing, without revealing its intentions. Before they have time to react, the party is teleported once again. Cowering in fear, with no way to ascertain the truth behind the rumors of "destroying targets will take you back to the real world," and "getting 100 points will bring you back to life," they nonetheless manage to defeat first the "Onion Aliens," and second the "Tanaka Aliens." At first, they participate seeking their old, peaceful lives. But over time, Kurono begins to anticipate the exciting, dangerous world of Gantz, over his boring, everyday life. Finally, the third stage begins, against the statue-shaped "Rowdy Alien" and "Grumpy Alien." The group is overpowered by the enormous creatures, but Kurono attacks fiercely and bravely defeats the enemy. The other participants are heartened by his courageous display, but the increasingly difficult statues begin to kill the party, one by one... Caption: Kurono and the others are nothing but Gantz's toys. They live to be used. Horizontal: The only thing that has been in Gantz's world longer than Kurono's group is the Dog. His general que sera sera, go-with-the-flow style, plus the fact that he never fights with the aliens (in order to save his own skin) has a large influence on Kato's hesitation to harm the aliens. [LOWER RIGHT] In Circle: Dog Hiroya Oku speaks about the "Dog" (over the phone) Q...Can we assume he was owned by a single OL, like Kurono guessed? ....Yeah. Q...Actually, I don't think its sex was revealed... ....It's a male. Q...So he's a hot OL's butter dog. ....Well, I hadn't thought of it that way... but it works. Q...So what is this dog doing in the world of Gantz? ....His owner didn't like him and abandoned him during a walk, then he was hit by a dumptruck and sent to the apartment. By the way, I believe he remains a stray dog, and hasn't gone back home after missions. [LOWER LEFT] "Dog" actually has a pedigree!! His rather vacant expression and butter dog-like actions would make you think Dog is just a regular mutt, but we've found out that he has a pedigree! "I saw a border collie in a book of dogs, so I drew that." (Hiroya Oku) Caption: The upper right photo is a border collie. It's easy to understand why Kishimoto would like such a pretty dog. Bottom: One-line Column...Part 1 - Gantz's apartment bears a strong resemblance to a famous building in the Ebisu area of Shibutani. - Page 223 - Whys and hows of Gantz.... Gantz Special Report! RUMORS OF THE TANAKA ALIENS The Tanaka Alien may be a rather unassuming and even endearing character, based on his harmless looks and lack of alien babblespeak, but let it be said that he is based on a real-life model. He loves chocolate balls, is known for songs like "Kantaro, the North Wind Kid," "Beautiful Sunday," and is often quoted as saying, "Yuzo?" It seems rather apparent that he is based on Seiji Tanaka, cousin of the Busy Four's Yuzo Gucci, original singer on the show "Together With Mom," star of Choco Ball commercials, and singer of the hit song, "Beautiful Sunday." Left Caption: Inside the Tanaka Aliens are rather inexplicable birds. They cannot breathe the outside air, and soon suffocate. Bottom Caption: This is (probably) the TV inside the Tanaka Aliens' home. But what is it playing...? [BOTTOM RIGHT] In Memorial of Joichiro Nishi Nishi left a very strong impression on us all, but his personal life is still shrouded in mystery. But now it has been revealed that he had a surprisingly normal life. "After every mission, Nishi would return home and go to school like a normal boy." (Hiroya Oku) We can already see him at school, the shy boy who couldn't talk to girls, chasing balls for his club after school... [BOTTOM LEFT] In Circle: Nishi Caption: If we take this to be his average score, he'd have participated in 30 rounds. That's a pace of one mission every twelve days. Vertical: Nishi had been a part of the Gantz world for an entire year before Kurono's group arrived, but died at the hands of the Tanaka Aliens just before reaching his 100 points. He was often misunderstood for his cold, uncaring attitude and excitement at the sight of death, but he must be thanked for his helpful words about the use of weapons and other mysteries of Gantz. Bottom: One-line Column...Part 2 - It is rumored that the random characters that appear on cover pages are drawn entirely at whim. - Page 224 - ALL OUR ENEMIES Take a look at these different aliens hiding among us(?!), so that you don't get taken by surprise. Rowdy Alien (It's hard to tell which is which) Characteristics: Strong, Big Likes: Small Places, Grumpy Quote: Nn Alien Speak (can you decipher these?) "Whyt thert dogin mest stund fahr ghud." "Haf merrkiy, ah repento." "Thyrt o syk mann." "Kal my jou flll." A lot of it sounds like archaic language. You might be surprised if you alter some vowels. SEND US YOUR ALIENS!
