The Story Thus Far: When Gon hears his father, whom he had thought was dead, is actually alive and a Hunter, he makes the decision to become a Hunter as well. But then he finds out that the test to qualify as a Hunter is extremely difficult...!! On his journey to take the Hunter Test, he meets two likeminded applicants, Leorio and Kurapika. The three arrive at the testing grounds safely, and the test begins! Caught between fierce fighting amongst the contestants, the test opens with a grueling marathon race. But, when they are surrounded by mist on the way, the magician Hisoka obstructs their path...?!
Gon - The main character. He travels the road to be a Hunter, hoping to find his father!
Kurapika - Wants to be a Hunter to capture the "Phantom Brigade" that killed his people.
Leorio - It seems he wants to be a Hunter to make money, but he really wants to be a doctor.
Tonpa - A test veteran. Pretends to be nice, but actually likes crushing rookies.
Hisoka - A creepy magician. Terrifies the other contestants, using his cards.
