Story.  Monster is closer to true literature than any other manga I've worked on, or even seen for that matter. It's nothing short of a masterpiece. The story is of Kenzo Tenma, a Japanese doctor living in Germany. In 1985, he saves the life of a little boy rather than the mayor, disobeying the hospital director's orders.  Shortly afterward, the director and two other big shots are poisoned to death, placing the doubt on Tenma (who is innocent, of course). Later, in 1995, a similar incident occurs near Tenma, and he is forced to go on the run to escape the police. It turns out the little boy whose life he saved is a terrible "monster", homicidal, brilliant and ambitious. The rest of the story follows Tenma and others as they track down the Monster to try and stop him. Along the way, there are numerous side stories that each have something to say about human nature, even though they may not contribute to the main plot. As I said before, this is a true masterpiece and should not be missed by the intelligent, mature manga enthusiast. Monster ran in the biweekly Big Comic Original from 1994 to 2002, to a total of 18 volumes. In 2008, Shogakukan began printing a larger "perfect edition" with color pages reproduced, to an expected total of 9 volumes--each is the size of two regular books. I began this project in November 2001 and finished March 2004. Most of the language is PG-13, although there are a handful of f-words as well.

NoteAnother Monster is currently in progress. I'm also checking up the old scripts for the Perfect Edition.
