Volume 4 : Crescent Moon
go back

Inside Cover: I have a dream. Ahh, I'd sure like to scribble on some dogs: "Can I draw nosehairs?" "Can I make it look like a panda?" I've tried many times to go to my friends' houses and draw on their pets, but no one will let me.  "Get your own dog and draw on it," they say, but why should I do that?  I don't want such a weird-ass dog.

Back Cover: Usopp's peaceful village is going to be attacked by pirates!  Luffy and his crew, who find out beforehand, hide at the beach to stop the invasion, but no pirates show up at all.  So what's all the shouting they hear coming from the beach on the other side of town...?!

The Story of One Piece, from Volume 1 to Volume 4: It is the Great Pirate Age. Countless pirates have raised their flags and gone to battle to find the legendary pirate king Gold Roger's hidden treasure, "One Piece." This is the story of a young boy who wishes to become a pirate. His name was Luffy. Luffy greatly admired Shanks, the leader of a crew of pirates staying in his town, but one day, he accidentally ate their spoil of battle, a "Devil Fruit." The fruit's special powers robbed Luffy of his ability to swim ever again, but granted him a spectacular body that stretches like rubber! Soon afterwards, however, he angered some of Shanks' rival bandits, and was tossed into the water in the middle of the sea. As he was drowning, Luffy was set upon by a monster, but in an instant Shanks was there to rescue him! At the expense of one arm...
10 years later, using Shanks' straw hat as his trademark, Luffy set out for sea. His great journey to be the Pirate King had begun.
Having found and recruited Zoro and Nami in his travels, Luffy stops at a village to find rations and a more powerful ship. They meet a proud liar named Usopp, hear about Kaya, the wealthiest woman in the village, and go to ask her for a ship. But the butler Clahador forces them away, and they sadly abandon their hopes. Luffy and Usopp are having a discussion at the coast when they spy the butler with a suspicious-looking man! They overhear that Clahador is actually the infamous pirate "Captain Kuro," and is undertaking a plot to assassinate Kaya. Now the two have to find some way to stop the plan from being carried out...
