Volume 5 : For Whom the Bell Tolls

Inside Cover: In Volume 4, you wrote that you would like to draw on some dogs, so please draw on (this picture of ) my dog all you like! "Charmy" (Pet's name is Tome) is what I call him.  (Shizuoka Prefecture, Monkey Lover)
Thank you very much. I have turned Tome into the fine specimen you see here. Around the world, there are animals of all different colors. For instance, wouldn't it make sense for a dog raised in a field of sunflowers to evolve like this, to protect itself from enemies? Living creatures are mysterious things. Are you angry, Monkey Lover?

Back Cover: Luffy faces off against the terrible pirate Clahador!! Is an end coming to this violent battle over the single hill road that leads to the village?! Zoro and Usopp have followed Kaya and the children into in the woods in order to save them...

The Story of One Piece, from Volume 1 to Volume 5: It is the Great Pirate Age. Countless pirates have raised their flags and gone to battle to find the legendary pirate king Gold Roger's hidden treasure, "One Piece." This is the story of a young boy who wishes to become a pirate. His name was Luffy. Luffy greatly admired Shanks, the leader of a crew of pirates staying in his town, but one day, he accidentally ate their spoil of battle, a "Devil Fruit." The fruit's special powers robbed Luffy of his ability to swim ever again, but granted him a spectacular body that stretches like rubber! Soon afterwards, however, he angered some of Shanks' rival bandits, and was tossed into the water in the middle of the sea. As he was drowning, Luffy was set upon by a monster, but in an instant Shanks was there to rescue him! At the expense of one arm...
10 years later, using Shanks' straw hat as his trademark, Luffy set out for sea. His great journey to be the Pirate King had begun.
Having found and recruited Zoro and Nami in his travels, Luffy stops at a village to find rations and a more powerful ship, where they meet the proud liar Usopp. Usopp uses his lies to stir up the village, but also to cheer up the sickly Kaya. One day, Luffy and Usopp accidentally discover that Kaya's obedient butler Clahador is actually the infamous pirate, Captain Kuro. Kuro is scheming to have his former pirate crew attack the village and murder Kaya, after he receives all her inheritance... Struck by Usopp's love for his village, Luffy and company decide to fight Kuro's Black Cat Pirate Crew! A violent battle at the lone hill road that leads into the village ensues! And eventually, Kuro himself comes to join the fray...!
