Volume 24 : A Man's Dream
go back

Note: I hope my decision to translate the title of the volume as "A Man's Dream" isn't taken to be misogynistic or sexist in any way.  The original title would be more like "A Human's Dream" or "A Person's Dream", but to me those just don't have the same ring to them.  I'm not specifically trying to say "only a MAN'S dream", just try to think of it in terms of the word man used to represent humanity, i.e. mankind.  This is just for the sake of smooth reading.  I beg your forgiveness.

Inside Cover: Oh yeah, I went home for a bit and finally got my first reaction to One Piece from my parents.  "That story about the deer was nice"...... DEER?

Back Cover: After leaving Alabasta, Luffy and crew suddenly run into a very unexpected character!!  Now the crew is all ready for a new voyage, but it seems the destination the Log Pose is now pointing to is... the "sky"?!  An ocean adventure romance in search of the "One Piece"!!

The Story of One Piece, from volume 1 to volume 24: It is the Great Pirate Age.  Countless pirates have raised their flags and gone to battle to find the legendary pirate king Gold Roger's hidden treasure, "One Piece".  Luffy, who yearns to be one of those pirates, sets off on a voyage to become the Pirate King!!
Plunging into the Grand Line, Luffy and company meet the princess Vivi, and vow to help her save her country.  The ringleader for the "Takeover of Alabasta" turns out to be none other than Crocodile, one of the "Seven Armed Seas".  He has created a secret criminal organization named Baroque Works and carried out this huge plan to create a rebellion and seize the country for the true purpose of finding the powerful weapon "Pluton".  His strategy was to occupy the army and rebels by having them clash, then making his agents perform clandestine operations.  To stop this ringleader of chaos from destroying the entire nation, Luffy's crew heads to the capital city, Alubarna!!  Ultimately, Zoro and the other crewmembers triumph over the BW agents.  Now Crocodile is alone, and the fate of the country rests on Luffy's shoulders.  But Crocodile's mysterious Devil Fruit powers back Luffy into a corner...  Yet, pushed on by the strong bonds to his friends, the ragged and injured Luffy summons a powerful onslaught that defeats Crocodile and brings peace back to Alabasta.  The Marines begin their pursuit once more, and Luffy's crew must say goodbye to Vivi and continue on their way.  It was a sorrowful farewell, but the mark of friendship on their arms would forever bind them together...
