With the gold they received from Sky Island, they commission the island's best carpenters, the Galley-la Company, to repair the GM. After assessment, it is determined that the keel, the backbone of the Going Merry, is irreplaceably damaged. Luffy is tortured by the news that his ship can no longer sail. Finally, he makes a forceful decision! They will leave Merry here, and get a new ship. A furious Usopp duels with Luffy and leaves the crew.
