Book 9
go back

Inside Flap: I'm not much for traveling. It's not that I don't want to visit anywhere, I just get tired thinking of all the trouble it takes to get there. In fact, I can remember that I always disliked hikes and bus field trips. Can't they invent teleportation already, I always groused. If some guy invents a teleportation machine in the future, he must be the king of the lazy people.

Back Cover: A terrible brawl disqualified the Futakotamagawa High Baseball Team from playing in official games for six months. The student who initiated that fight as a first-year student has transferred to a different school now. What will happen when the reborn baseball team runs into him again?!

The Story Thus Far: New teacher Kawato has accepted his mission to reform the currently-suspended baseball team. He scraps together nine members in time for their practice game against Yoga Daiichi High. Aniya helps the team take the lead in the early innings, but they give it up soon. Kawato is enraged by the other coach's humiliation of his players' dreams and punches him, but the game is allowed to continue. Futakotamagawa mounts a furious comeback, and their last member Shinjo even shows up before the end of the game, but it winds up a frustrating, one-run loss. Yet now, the new baseball team has the dream of the "Koshien" firmly implanted in their hearts.
The day after the game, Yoga Daiichi's coach, enraged at being punched, comes back for more. But surprisingly, it is Principal Murayama, normally so disgusted with the baseball team, who takes responsibility for its actions. The principal, having once led his beloved baseball squad to the Koshien as a teen, now leaves the team in Kawato's hands, and departs his alma mater. Kawato the teacher is still busy as ever, however. He still finds the time to show students with their own problems and students who want to give up on their goals the importance and splendor of having dreams.
