Inside Flap: I've noticed something recently, because I spend so much time just listening to the TV. Newscasters and program hosts misread their lines an awful lot! I can't tell if this is a recent development, or just something that I never noticed until now (probably the latter), but the fact that I get so worked up about it and yell at the TV is probably saying something about my increasing age.
Back Cover: As the game winds down, Megurogawa's talent finally explodes. A feeling of futility slowly spread through the Futakotamagawa Academy team, in the face of this overwhelming power. Just as the team of three months begins to crumble, Shinjo, Nikogaku's most powerful warrior, stands up and bellows! How will the game end?!
The Story Thus Far: New teacher Kawato has accepted his mission to reform the currently-suspended baseball team. He scrapes together nine members in time for their practice game against Yoga Daiichi High. The game is a tightly-contested one, but ends with a frustrating loss. Yet now, the new baseball team has the dream of the "Koshien" firmly implanted in their hearts.
It was an in-game fight that got the team suspended from official play for six months, a fight started by Enatsu, who later transferred to the infamous Megurogawa High to play baseball there. One day, Kawato rescues Hiyama from being attacked by members of the Megurogawa baseball team, and his challenge to settle their score "on the field" leads to a match-up of Futakotamagawa Academy vs. Megurogawa. Megurogawa seem uninterested, but every member of the team is immensely talented. Surprisingly, the game is a close 1-1 tie through four innings. When Nikogaku takes a one-run lead in the top of the fifth, Kawato reprimands the lifeless Megurogawa, eventually bringing them to their senses. In the bottom of the eighth, Megurogawa's hitters finally get a bead on Aniya's curve, the ultimate weapon that had kept Nikogaku alive, thus taking back the lead...
