Inside Flap: So, I was drinking coffee at a fast food place. Not long before, I had been unable to finish, and regrettably tossed the cup with the extra coffee in the trash. I'm sure some of you have done this, too. This day, I was about to stop drinking, too, until I noticed what seemed to be letters on the bottom of the cup. It looked like a factoid. I wanted to read it, but I couldn't unless I finished the coffee... so I manned up and drained the last of my coffee. It seemed like I had an inkling of how to solve Tokyo's garbage problem, on that rainy afternoon.

The Story Thus Far: New teacher Kawato has accepted his mission to reform the currently-suspended baseball team. He scrapes together a group of young toughs and clears the necessary hurdles to keep the team alive. The Nikogaku Baseball Team is off to a new start. They lost their first practice game in a heartbreaker, but the team now has the dream of the "Koshien" firmly implanted in their hearts.
Nikogaku leads the fateful revenge match against Enatsu and his team at Megurogawa High, now heading into the bottom of the ninth. The final batter, Kono. The Nikogaku Nine are nervous in the face of their first-ever victory, but Mikoshiba's nice play seals the win. After the game, at Mikoshiba's urging, the team goes and apologizes to the former members who were driven out in the dark days, cutting off all the bonds of their foolish past and making a fresh start. Within the team, the competition between Hiyama and Hiratsuka for the last spot on in the starting lineup heats up. Hiyama starts a ferocious practice regimen in order to gain the edge on self-described "genius" Hiratsuka. Suddenly, an old underclassman of Hiratsuka's without any idea of the truth behind his boasts appears!
