Iceland was warm, that February 2003 day.
Yukimura: 7 degrees?!  (That's warmer than Tokyo!)

It is a far-northern land, but the warm Gulf Stream makes the coasts habitable.
No trees at all.
But still, it's pretty cold.  There are even glaciers inland.

Tomi: The capital Reykjavik is a big city.

Yukimura: Kinda cool that there's just a town in the middle of the wilderness.

There was a statue of Leif Ericson on a hill overlooking the city.

We walked around to get pictures during the day.
Thingvellir National Park, a Viking gathering place

At night we watched the skies for signs of the Aurora Borealis.

We heard that you could expect to see them once in a 3-night period, but...

Yukimura: I'm hungry.

Scandinavian food is great.  Especially the salmon-based dishes, and
Yukimura: Man!  These mutton chops are great!!

Looking over, we saw a lady finishing up a 3-4 person XL pizza with a deluxe ice cream sundae.

Returning to the hotel...
Hotel manager Alper. Likes Japan.
Alper: Did you see the aurora?
	It was beautiful!

It happened for just a few minutes, while we were eating dinner.

That was the only time the aurora came in our 3-day trip.

They were selling Japanese electronics in a window on a street in the world's northernmost capital.
Yukimura: A Gamecube!!
It was an odd sight, to me.
